How Jedi Killed Star Wars Galaxies

What really killed Star Wars Galaxies? SWG was one of the greatest Star Wars games of all time and it is still very well-loved. So, what made it die off? That’s a question that can open a can of worms because people have a lot of different opinions on it. But here’s a video that presents some interesting points. Star Wars Galaxies is still available on Amazon, if you want the disc for your collection, or you need it to play SWGEMU. Get SWG here. This video from saintmillion talks about how the real downfall of SWG was Jedis – or rather, how they handled the Jedi in the game. But a lot of the context for the video comes from Raph Koster, the original creator of the game. See below for the link to his blog where he did a postmortem on the game. There is now a book collecting…

Episode Zero – Lost Archives

A video series for a small community, here’s something to give your attention to for a bit. It’s Episode Zero, Lost Archives, a lore show made to showcase the Characters, Stories, and Adventures created by the Roleplay Community.  We’ve got something fun and interesting to share with you this week from the SWTOR community. This archive of the lost and forgotten will be curated by Darth Eros, his assistant Master Hawke and other guests. Darth Eros is also a writer, so I completely relate to what he says about the roleplaying community, making friends, and growing yourself as a writer through roleplaying. It’s one big reason I have always loved gaming so much. As a creative and a writer, video games were a way to flex my creative brain, and video games with a story, or that allowed roleplaying were all the more fun. By the time SWTOR came around,…

The Amazing Voice Acting of KOTOR

We can sing the praises of KOTOR all day long. Seriously, it’s been said here before and will likely be said here again – Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best Star Wars games of all time. One thing that made this game so unique and loved by so many was the amazing voice acting talent that covered the entire, vast script of the game. When Bioware made the decision to hire voice actors for the entire script, it was a big one. That story is told in the latest entry in the Boss Fight Books series, written by journalist Alex Kane and available if you want to follow it all. It is absolutely an interesting story for anyone who loves KOTOR, Star Wars, and video game history. In it, we learn all about what made the casting and sound departments of LucasArts unique, and how the process…

He also has a blog site called The Brew Hall where he sometimes writes about SWTOR as well. That Time Big Bang Theory Played SWTOR

That Time Big Bang Theory Played SWTOR

If you’re a fan of Big Bang Theory, you may have noticed that one episode (S05E19) where the gang all played SWTOR. In their usual hilarious manner, the gang talked “nerdy” about “that new Star Wars game” and the other games they had played in the past (remember when they played WoW?) And of course, the girlfriends didn’t understand, although Bernadette jumps in with her pink laptop to play their healer (stereotypical, but still good for a laugh). “My Howie-wowie has an owwie.” Anyway, most of it is just reference to the game, which they never actually call by name, except for one scene on Raj’s screen where we actually get to see them play. SWTOR fans have criticized this clip every time it gets brought up but I think it’s all in good fun and one player commented on a thread that he found out about the game because…

We Want More Star Wars Games (But Without Jedi?)

I think something we can all agree on is that we want more Star Wars games. I’ve been writing about it here for years and even more sadly, written about it each time an anticipated Star Wars game got canned. And honestly, it sucks. Which is why a lot of fans are excited about the latest Star Wars game on the way – Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. And there’s also that little Lego Star Wars game I keep talking about… But anyway, back to Fallen Order. It may be the next game we’re getting, but is it really the next Star Wars game fans wanted? Robert Endyo from Gameverse has a theory that Star Wars gamer fans want to see less Jedi. Gamers would also like games that would be great as eSports. This site provides the best strategies for e-sports betting. Here’s some of what he has to…

Obsidian’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3

Knights of the Old Republic, KOTOR, is one of the most popular Star Wars games to date. Fans of the series have been waiting for a KOTOR 3 that sadly, will never be. Once KOTOR 2 was wrapped up, Obsidian was all set to make a third game in the franchise, but it never came to pass. Speaking to Chris Avellone at Reboot Develop, Kirk McKeand from vg247.com asked if Obsidian ever had a story planned for Knights of The Old Republic 3, and it did. Here’s the basic premise, in Avellone’s words: “When we finished the second one we were all trying to restore our lives back to sanity,” Avellone remembers. “We did start working on the third game pitch, because we always imagined the trilogy. Even when working on the second game, we [tried] to foreshadow what Darth Revan was doing in the second game, and he wasn’t…

Star Wars: Dark Forces Fan Remake

Star Wars: Dark Forces Fan Remake

There is a fan remake of Star Wars: Dark Forces in Unreal Engine 4 and it is now available for download. Created by Obsidian Entertainment’s senior environment artist, Jason Lewis, this remake aimed to recreate the first level from the game in Epic’s engine. The map doesn’t have any enemies so it’s just for recreation, but it looks to deliver on the fun. The attention to detail is really amazing and it also gives us a visual of what a modern take on this classic Star Wars shooter might look like. See it in action here: For those who may not remember, Star Wars: Dark Forces is a first-person shooter that came out in 1995. It used Jedi Engine, a game engine created especially for the game. It had some really cool features that were previously unheard of for a first-person shooter at the time, like multiple floored level design…

Star Wars 1313 – What Could Have Been

There have been almost too many canceled Star Wars games to count, but one that makes us really sad is Star Wars 1313. It had a lot of potential, but unfortunately was trashed before it would get to see the light of day. To recap for those who don’t remember, this wasn’t the canceled Star Wars game from Visceral Games, or the open world one that came right after the closing of Visceral. This was, indeed, another Star Wars games, from back when LucasArts was still making the games themselves. Star Wars 1313 predates Lucasfilm getting bought by Disney and the licensing of Star Wars games going to EA. Star Wars 1313 was canceled back in 2013, after it had been put on hold for a year, back in 2012. So what’s new? Last month, Naughty Dog animator Jonathan Cooper shared an animation on Twitter giving us a little look…
