A Stormtrooper’s Tale: Crafting a Star Wars-Inspired Animation in Just 3 Days with Maya and Unreal Engine 5
In the vast and ever-expanding universe of Star Wars fan creations, a new gem has emerged, courtesy of M.P. Rabie, Director and Co-Owner at Day for Nite. Rabie has recently shared a captivating Star Wars-inspired 3D animation, a project born out of the desire to entertain and showcase his artistic prowess beyond the confines of previs and postvis work. The Inspiration Behind the Animation Rabie’s professional journey primarily revolves around previsualization (previs) and postvisualization (postvis), crucial stages in the filmmaking process that involve creating preliminary versions of shots or sequences. Despite the importance of this work, it often leaves creators like Rabie without tangible pieces to share with a broader audience. Seeking to bridge this gap and demonstrate his skills in a more accessible format, Rabie embarked on a creative endeavor to produce a short animation that could captivate both Star Wars enthusiasts and the average viewer. The Animation: A…

BETRAYAL – Star Wars: Order 66 Short Film
It’s fan film time again! I feel like I haven’t done this in a while. I’ve missed it. This short film from Loacher Films is really well done. The acting is great, the video quality and modeling is nice too, but what really gets me is the very unique story idea. It’s a short film- under 4 minutes – so I’m not going to spoil the impact by talking about it too much. I think you should just watch it yourself and then let me know what you think of it. See it for yourself here: After you watch, drop us a line and let us know what you think. Would you want to see more from this story? I’m definitely curious about what happens next!

MACE WINDU – Star Wars Fan Film
It’s fan film time again and I love everything about this one. For one, I’m a big fan of Mace Windu and here we get to see a young Windu in action. Next, the acting was really great and the costuming was of professional level and keeping with the time period. It has the staple of a great Star Wars film – an awesome lightsaber duel. And the story is really great. While it’s a short film, you get immersed it in right away and I can’t wait to see more films by them. I wish they’d do more Windu but I’m sure anything they produce will be a fun, entertaining watch. Nearly 20 years before Phantom Menace, young Jedi Knight Mace Windu locates a missing Jedi. All of this social isolation means I’m spending even more time at home than usual (and that’s saying something) and I’m finding one way I enjoy passing that time is with new videos. And if it’s Star Wars, well, you know I’m gonna watch it. Star Wars fan films are totally my thing. The good, the bad, the ugly – and everything in between! I’ve said it before but there’s something great about even the “bad” fan films. The spirit of Star Wars that goes into each one is special in and of itself. Here’s the latest one I’m enjoying: Star Wars Smuggler’s Fate. It’s just over 10 minutes long and is the final part of a trilogy, so be sure to watch the others first, if you haven’t. While this one is not Hollywood-level acting or videography, it has a charge to it. I also really like the costuming…

I really love the look and feel of the whole thing We even get to see some personalities from the Troopers and it makes them feel more humanized and not just like fighter bots like some films. If it feels a little slow in the beginning, give it time. I got so invested around mid-way through, I just had to see what happened next!…

DARK JEDI – A Star Wars Fan Film
I have another interesting fan film for you today. This one is fairly new so you may have missed it. It was published back on December 13th by urbanamadei on YouTube. Dark Jedi – A Star Wars Fan-Film with Parkour YouTuber Urbanamadei and Hollywood Stuntwoman Marie Mouroum from Star Wars Rise of Skywalker. Made by Lorenz Hideyoshi Ruwwe. See why one viewer said, ” This lightsaber duel makes the Last Jedi look like 6 yr olds with broomsticks!!” Check it out for yourself here: The choreography is clearly the star of the show on this one. I thought it was a fun little short (under 8 mins) and now it has me daydreaming of my ROTC days if we were all Stormtroopers… haha
