The Academy Ep 10 & 11 -“Gearing and Stat Optimization in 4.0”
Gearing and stats can be a confusing concept to a new player. This is just one more great benefit to follow The Academy series from swtorista. In the latest episodes, 10 and 11, she talks to us about these specific points. These are great episodes that delve more deeply into important aspects of enjoying SWTOR. If you know someone who is new to the game, or thinking of picking up SWTOR, we highly recommend you point them in the direction of the Academy. Even if you’ve been playing for a long time, you might still appreciate these videos so go ahead and give them a watch/listen. Here’s what these two episodes are all about. Gearing up your character can be one of the most daunting tasks in the game. The first half of this episode talks about how to mod your gear, and the second half talks about stat optimization…
Star Wars Fan Film Unity of the Force
Here’s a really cool fan made film we think you will enjoy. In this story, the young hero, Lak, is tasked with finding an artifact, a special lightsaber that is said to be the most powerful in existence. He is less than enthused in the beginning, which makes him different from many young Jedis. I would expect him to be chomping at the bit to take on a mission like this but instead, his attitude was one of “Can’t someone else do it?” While this annoyed me, I also thought it was kind of refreshing to see a different angle taken. So anyway, he goes on to complete this mission to find The Artifact and there are many obstacles in his way, which is no surprise. I think you’ll find it a fun little short and the ending was a bit of a surprise to me. The ending may surprise…
Star Wars Posters by LEGO
I love LEGO and I love Star Wars. I’ve written about this before here on the site. So you can imagine how excited I get when LEGO and Star Wars come together, as they often do. Here is a really cool example of that in these Star Wars posters by LEGO. Someone has taken the time to put them together side-by-side. Despite the last one being flipped, it’s a really good way to see all of them at once like this the way the original posters were intended to be viewed. LEGO Star Wars Posters I really love the creativity that went into recreating each poster so that it looks like the originals, but with LEGO flair. The last poster doesn’t quite have the same style and I read somewhere that it was a fan creation but I can’t seem to find any solid facts confirming this. Still, I like…
Some Great Outer Rim Easter Eggs and Canon-tributes
The first expansion pack to DICE’s popular Star Wars: Battlefront, Outer Rim, was sure to be a major hit with players, some of whom had decried a certain lack of depth plaguing the original release. Meant to address just that issue, Outer Rim brought tons of new content, including new locations like Jabba the Hutt’s palace and the factories of Sullust. The game has always done a great job in the authenticity department, placing players smack in the middle of the Star Wars universe, and through Outer Rim, that has been taken to a new level. In addition to graphical perfection, the creators of the game have been extremely keen on details, strewing several canon-references over the new locations. Jabba the Hutt’s throne-room is rife with such artifacts. In fact, the room itself is a rather iconic presence in this respect. Jabba’s throne is the centerpiece, but the rancor pit…
Star Wars: Uprising – Alternate Approaches to Defeating Lvl 85 Lightside Boss (PPK)
The two methods I know of to defeat the PPK (Light Side Lvl 85 Boss) are: Get 5* Noble Gear so you’re immune to his stun Use Sticky Bomb, Snare, and Intimidate, and kite him to the beginning and back Both work fine (with skill, patience, and some luck). Just for kicks I’ve been testing other approaches. Obviously it takes a long time to test different abilities, so I thought I’d crowd source it. Please let me know if you’ve tried the abilities below and what the result was: Diving Roll Level 1 (He’s gonna harpoon you! Dive!) Diving Roll Level 2 (Grants obscured for a short duration) Diving Roll Level 3 (Grants immune while rolling) Charge Level 3 (Interrupts all enemies hit) Absolve Level 1 (Gain immunity to all negative status effects) Holographic Decoy (Deploys a hologram) Ion Wave Level 1 or 2 (Stuns all droids for a short…
Weapon Tunings Q&A in SWTOR
Cartel Market Producer Dan Bunten has posted some Q&A in response to yesterday’s blog post on the new weapon tuning feature coming with Patch 4.4 Hey folks, We have seen a lot of questions come up about Weapon Tuning and I wanted to address some of the bigger ones we keep seeing. Is Weapon Tuning purely cosmetic? Yes, they do not affect the stats of the weapon in any way. Will we be able to modify existing weapons? Many of the existing weapons you have will support the Weapon Tuning slot, but not all. We will continue adding them to existing weapons over time and all new weapons introduced will have this slot. Are they exclusive to the Cartel Market? The Lightning Weapon Tuning is exclusive to the Cartel Market, but there may be future Tunings available from other sources. Are they affected by Color Crystals? Yes. Will Tuning effects stack…
SWTOR: Introducing Weapon Tunings
BioWare posted a new blogpost on a new feature in the game: Weapon Tunings. This can be used to customize your weaponry, creating a brilliant visual flair on the weapon itself! If you want to equip a Weapon Tuning the first thing you’ll need is a weapon with an available Tuning Slot. Weapons that have a Tuning Slot come from many different sources including the Cartel Market, PvP, Operations, Reputation Vendors, Flashpoints, Heroics Missions, and Crafting Recipes. Be sure to check if your Weapon has a Tuning Slot! Next, you’ll need a Weapon Tuning. They are currently only found in Cartel Market Packs. The first Weapon Tuning, Lightning, is available in the Plunderer Pack which launches alongside Chapter XIII: Profit and Plunder. Once you’ve got a weapon with an open Tuning Slot and a Weapon Tuning, combining the two is as simple as making any other modification to your weapon. First, CTRL+Right-click…

SWTOR: Actions Taken Against Patch 4.3 Exploiters
As we mentioned yesterday, there is a major exploit going on in SWTOR right now. Eric Musco took on the forums and informed players on the patch 4.3 exploit that was going around and has since then being fixed. Hey folks, As many of you may have heard rumor of, there was an exploit which was introduced in Game Update 4.3. We have since addressed the issue and the exploit is no longer possible. However I wanted to share some details on what happened and what action we are taking. Without going into too much detail, there was an issue tied to certain players accounts which allowed them to very easily create large quantities of credits through use of in-game mail and trading. We got reports over the past few days that players randomly received very large sums of credits and this was instrumental in helping us find isolate who had…

An open letter to the SWTOR players
SWTOR Producer Ben Irving posted a rally nice open letter to SWTOR Players on the official forums. This letter address some of the concerns players have had with Knights of the fallen empire. Hi there! My name is Ben Irving, Producer for Star Wars: The Old Republic. I don’t often make posts in the forums, in fact, this may be my first ever post. Despite that, our whole team, myself included try to digest all of the internet for SWTOR information – The forums, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Recently there have been questions and concerns around the quality of our releases and the ongoing support for SWTOR and I wanted to stop by to address those concerns. First off, I want to apologize for some of the issues you have experienced in the last couple of months. The monthly chapter release schedule is new and it has come with some…
SWTOR Character Transfers – Important Update
Bioware’a Eric Musco took on the forums, announcing the cost of Character Transfers have increased to 1000 CC from the previously discounted 90 CC. Chekc it out: Character Transfers – Important Update | 04.19.2016, 12:49 PM Hey folks, Heads up on a change that is coming next Tuesday (4/26). Leading up to the Fallen Empire launch, we greatly reduced the cost of Character Transfers from 1,800 CC down to 90 CC. This was done to accommodate players who were interested in transferring characters to join their friends who were returning to or joining the game. This was a limited time offer which will be coming to an end. Starting Tuesday, the new price will be 1,000 CC which is adjusted to below the former rate of 1,800 CC. We feel this gives our players the option to Transfer at a reasonable rate while being in line with other services we…
BioWare teases new planet in SWTOR
BioWare just tweeted a screenshot of what looks like a new planet in Star Wars: The Old Republic. It is still unknown if it is a fully new planet for players to explore, or how it fits in to the story. The planets name is “Vandin”, and so far we can’t find any info on it in the Jedi achieves or on wookieepedia. That means we might have a new Voss on our hands. BioWare tends to be really good at building up new stories, so I am excited. Here are the official news: Prepare to journey to the mysterious planet of Vandin on May 5 in ‘Profit and Plunder’: https://t.co/8uBfvbBsS8 pic.twitter.com/rOsHdhlQo6 — The Old Republic (@SWTOR) April 18, 2016
SWTOR: April 19 Server Patch – Patch Note
BioWare took the servers down to fix a few bugs. Here are the patchnotes: Warzones Fixed an issue that caused groups to be unable to queue properly. Resolved an issue that was causing the Ranked Warzone Arena Leaderboards to display Character information incorrectly following a server transfer. Personally I was hoping to see an update to the credit exploit currently roaming. We encourage you to De-list your valuable items from the GTN, and await an Official response from Bioware.
More New Content Coming For Star Wars: Battlefront
Emboldened by the success of their recently released Outer Rim Expansion, the creators of Star Wars: Battlefront have put out an announcement the other day, promising still more great content to come, some of which will apparently be free. While it’s been known for a while that Bespin is set to land in June, laden with new content, DICE have made public more details about it, as well as about the various events meant to drive player engagement scheduled for May. There will apparently be more community missions, double-score weekends, as well as special login events, all meant to hand players new opportunities to collect more XP, credits and items in ever more entertaining ways. In addition to all the above, there will be new Hutt Contracts as well, which will yield Star Card rewards, such as the Ion Neutralizer and the Bacta Bomb. On May 4, to celebrate Star…
Gamefront is Shutting Down! Help Save the Star Wars: Battlefront Mods!
Tragedy has struck the Star Wars: Battlefront community. Gamefront, a site that hosts mods and other media/software for a wide variety of games, has announced that their site will be shut down completely on April 30th, 2016. As a result, all files uploaded to the site will no longer be accessible. This site is the largest source of mods for SWBF1 and 2, and for all of those mods to vanish would be a tremendous loss. Fortunately, there are multiple resources to find these mods outside of Gamefront, however we cannot be sure that every file on the site is available elsewhere. So we’re calling on the community to help us ensure that the entire collection is preserved. We need volunteers to download mods from Gamefront and reupload them to ModDB. Keep in mind that you’re gonna need good internet speed (>30Mbps both up and down) and plenty of local…
Outer Rim Update (4/15) Patch coming “early May”
Here is the newest update from DICE on Star Wars: Battlefront. Players can expect this new patch in early May. With Outer Rim just a short two weeks old, the team here at DICE is extremely happy that many of you are enjoying the new additions to the game like Jabba’s Palace, the new Extraction game mode, and of course our new heroes Nien Nunb and Greedo. We love hearing from you about the fun you’re having in the Outer Rim. However, we’re also hearing from some of you about some issues that are detracting from your experience and we wanted to talk you through our plan to address those here today. Specifically, some have had to deal with confusing UI feedback like Credits not showing up at the end of a match, Hutt Contract progression freezing or resetting, or – my award for most frustrating – having your Rank…
SWTOR Dev Blog: The Eternal Championship
The SWTOR team has published a blog post regarding the upcoming Eternal Championship comming in Game update 4.4.: Welcome to the Eternal Championship, a new daily experience that will pit players against some of the galaxy’s most notorious fighters. Below Zakuul’s sparkling exterior lies The Arena Grand, a decadent venue where citizens of the old world indulge their basest desires as spectators of brutal gladiatorial events. One such event is Mayhem, where beginning with Game Update 4.4 “Profit and Plunder” players may compete to earn the title of Eternal Champion. The Eternal Championship is a solo-able PvE experience that will be available to all players who have played up through Chapter IX “The Alliance” of Knights of the Fallen Empire. By traveling to the Platform 6 Cantina on Zakuul and speaking with fight master Dominaire, players may enter Mayhem at the Arena Grand. There they will fight through multiple rounds of increasingly…

SWTOR: Complimentary Server Transfers
Due to testing by the SWTOR Devs, some players were able to do a free server transfer yesterday. Don’t grow to attached to it though, as it will properly never happen again: Today , 08:33 AM | #36 Hey folks, Just to clear up any confusion. Yes, server transfers did end up free for a period of a few hours last night. However, this isn’t a permanent change. There is also no need to panic as this isn’t a precursor to anything. We had received reports that players were experiencing problems over the past few days with Character Transfers. We were doing some testing with the Character Transfer service to resolve this issue and the price going to zero was a side effect of that testing. Some very observant players were able to benefit from that testing . Apologies for any confusion! -eric
