EA Explains Why Star Wars: Battlefront Had No Single Player Campaign

Here is a big question many have been asking: why didn’t Star Wars Battlefront have a single player campaign? There certainly seems to be the desire for one from the community. During the Q&A Session of Electronic Arts’ Investor Day, Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter asked the publisher’s executive team this very question. Actually, he hit them hard stating they had “blown it” with the NBA brand and saying they didn’t really make a very high rated Star Wars game either. EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund provided an answer on behalf of the company, briefly addressing the NBA brand and focusing on why Battlefront didn’t have a single player campaign: “So, I would agree with you on NBA, that is something that we struggled with as an organization and so we have a different plan in play right now, but we hope to rectify that. Overall, if you look at…

Could There Be a Star Wars RTS in the Works?

When it comes to Star Wars games, we’ve had the really good, the really bad, and everything in between. It’s no surprise then that fans will be both excited and skeptical at the idea of a new Star Wars game. The rumor mill tells us we might be seeing a Star Wars RTS in the future. This is actually a very interesting idea. While there have been Star Wars RTS games in the past, there was never one done by EA so it will be interesting to see what the developer would do with this type of game. The rumor began around a video that was posted to Elise Baldwin’s Vimeo account. Baldwin was audio director for a number of games in the The Sims series. She claims she was audio director for the Star Wars RTS also, which is how she obtained the footage she shared. EA removed the…

Is SWTOR Still Relevant?

With all the new Star Wars hype out there today, after the new movie released and the others in the works, is Star Wars The Old Republic still relevant? As most of our readers probably know already, the game launched in December of 2011. Since then, we’ve seen five expansions which added more content, with the latest coming in October of 2015. How popular has the game been since? While it’s had ups and downs, there have been over 57 million characters created, 17 million of them Jedi. The game has over 104 hours of voiced cinematics. Players have played more than 645 million hours playing this game. That sounds pretty successful if  you ask me. Still, Forbes contributor, Neil Herndon, wanted to ask the question, “Is SWTOR still relevant?” In this piece, he explores the topic and while his answer is a “yes”, there’s a lot more to it…

Battlefront: YouTuber goes 159 and 0 as Greedo

Have you ever seen a 159-0 kill streak as Greedo in Star Wars: Battlefront? If not, then you’re going to want to watch this video because a YouTuber not only did it, but did it and recorded it. This is pretty awesome, actually. He gets 80 kills in 5 minutes. It’s a 159 killstreak caught on film. Not only is it cool that he went 159-0, but he also avoided taking even a single point of damage for more than seven minutes in the video. It would appear that he is quite overpowered when compared to his enemies. He one-shots most of them before they even get a chance to do any damage to him. From the uploader: “New personal best. Could have gotten more had I not flanked during the first phase and messed around in the Ewok village in second phase.” While some people think it’s cool, others…

SWTOR: The Academy, Ep 15 – “Codes & Creeds”

It’s that time again – time for another episode of The Academy. This one, episode 15, will tell you all about codes and creeds. There are many codes and creeds in the Star Wars universe so you will also see them throughout SWTOR. One of the first you will hear in the game is the Jedi Code: There is no death, there is only the Force.  There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force. They then go on to tell you the code of the Sith, which is basically the opposite of the Jedi Code. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains…

A Battlefront II Proposal

If you’ve played Star Wars: Battlefront II to completion, there’s a chance you may already know this, or perhaps you’ve heard about it in the forums on on the subReddit for Battlefield II. There is a marriage proposal in the credits. It scrolls quickly and if you’re not paying attention, you might miss it but it says: “Luci Wolfe, will you marry me?” It’s actually quite fun when games and movies put little notes, messages, or puns in their credits. In fact, many movie-goers know the trend for many movies to now show extra footage after the credits roll so people will stick around in the theater later to see the credits and this extra footage. So what is the real story behind this marriage proposal? Every so often in the game communities, this topic will come up again and people want to know: Who is Luci? Did she say…

Has the Time Finally Come for a SW Themed Mobile Slot Machine?

As Lisa put it, games of chance have a major role to play in the Star Wars universe, even if they are not explicitly shown anywhere. Who knows, maybe Lucas – and now Disney – didn’t want to risk to be rated anything but G, or PG, which is almost the same. But we all know that Han Solo won the Millenium Falcon in a game of Corellian Spike, which is a variant of the universe’s most popular game of chance, sabacc. The only direct reference to gambling – betting, and a bit of dice – was in Episode I, when Qui-Gon won the cash needed for the parts, and the slave boy Anakin, in a bet on the pod races. And it was a major source of suspense, I must say. With gambling playing such an important part in the Star Wars universe, I wonder when the first SW-themed…

How Powerful Was Starkiller?

This Star Wars Explained video tells us all about Starkiller, a very powerful Force user. Some will call  him one of the most powerful Force user around, but others will disagree. So which is it? What powers does he have? When do we first encounter Starkiller and what do we know about him? Well, this video is going to give you the breakdown in under 8 minutes. Some of this you might already know while other parts might be completely new. The thing about a great Star Wars character is that they need to have depth. You need to care about the character. You need to be able to relate to their struggle. You will be able to feel compassion. The stronger a character is written, the stronger you will feel about them. Even the “bad guys” or villains in a story need a relatable personality and some of the…

EA Admits “Conscious” Omission of Battlefront Single-player Campaign, Promises One for Sequel

Long blasted for lack of depth and more specifically for the lack of a single-player campaign, Star Wars: Battlefront has done very well nonetheless. DICE, the creators of the game, have always maintained that they had aimed at making a multi-player game, one that would allow players to relive the iconic battles of the classic Star Wars movies. Still something was definitely amiss, and the other day, EA’s Patrick Soderlund has finally come forth and confessed. He admitted that the decision to release the game without a single-player campaign had been a conscious one, driven by marketing reasons. More specifically, the team wanted to have the game released early, to take advantage of the Star Wars buzz generated by the release of The Force Awakens. In that respect, they have indeed accomplished their mission, but this marketing success came at a steep cost. The Battlefront community is still deeply offended,…

Tor TV: Spacedock: X-70B Phantom

Spacedock looks at Star Wars: The Old Republic’s “X-70B Phantom” in this great video. This short (under 4 minute) video is going to give you a rundown of the X:70B Phantom. The starships of the Imperial Navy have a long and rich history. They come from centuries of military research and development and it definitely shows in the final product. The Empire designed its fleet to be able to destroy the Republic as quickly as possible. However, as many things will, the design strategies changed over the years, especially after the Great War. Imperial engineers played on what worked from the past, along with the new technologies and lessons learned, to create beautiful new starships. This new generation also brought us the X-70B Phantom. This was a beautiful, stealthy, high-tech, low profile starship. It could get in and get out, get the job done without any unnecessary hassle. It has…

Star Wars: The Old Republic – The Bioware Story (Documentary)

We talk a lot about SWTOR here. The entire site was built upon it back in our early days as we awaited the release of the game. So it’s fun then to see things like this short documentary about the making of SWTOR. This BioWare Story from Complex introduces us to the brains behind the game. We hear from the directors, writers and other key players of BioWare’s SWTOR team and they tell us about how they were first interested in Star Wars and what impact it had on their world. This then, helps us to see the impact this had on SWTOR. There’s a nod to Knights of the Old Republic, then they explain how they go in their own direction from SWTOR. Some of this might be info you already knew if you’re a big nerd who followed this game from the beginning but other parts will definitely…

Star Wars Outer Rim Free to Play This Weekend

The first Star Wars: Battlefront DLC pack, Outer Rim, will be made available to players for free this weekend, more precisely from May 13 to May 15. This way, those who didn’t think the $15 DLC cost was worth it, will get a taste of what they’re missing, and maybe they will make up their minds to get Outer Rim, a potentially good move for those who want to play on for several more months, as apparently none of the DLC’s coming after Outer Rim will work without it. The promotional offer covers all four of the new maps, The Palace Garage, Jabba’s Palace, the Pipelines on Sullust and the Sorosuub Refinery as well as the new game mode (extraction) brought about by Outer Rim. Players will be able to give the two new heroes a go too. What they won’t be able to access though are the new Star…

It is settled. Supreme Leader Snoke is NOT Darth Plagueis

Ever since The Force Awakens made its big debut, fans have been speculating about Supreme Leader Snoke. We know next to nothing about this villain so far and you can bet that has a lot of people creating their own theories about it. Who is Snoke? Of the many theories out there, some are silly, some are crazy, and some just might actually make sense. Of course, none of us know for certain and we’ll likely have to wait for the next film to come out to get answers to this big question. One of these theories is that Snoke is Darth Plagueis. Slashfilm’s Ethan Anderton dispels this myth in this post: For whatever reason, some Star Wars fans seem hellbent on trying Supreme Leader Snoke to a Sith master who was briefly mentioned in Revenge of the Sith. If you’re one of those casual fans who doesn’t remember this detail, or…

Disney: Make a Movie/Series about the 501st Legion

I love the 501st. Their enthusiasm and dedication to Star Wars is like nothing else. I’ve you’ve seen or met them in person, you know just what I mean. In fact, these days when I think of Star Wars, or Star Wars fans, the 501st definitely rank up there with things that come to mind. I know I’m not the only one to feel that way but a recent petition on Change.org shows us another fan has a great idea. What if Disney made a movie or series about the 501st? This petition explains it all: The 501st Legion is one of the most recognized military units in modern history, more so than the “Band of Brothers” 506th PIR, 101st Airborne of WW2, more so than the elite US Navy SEAL Team 6. The 501st has quite literally developed a near “cult following.” With costumes worn by both children and…

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Confirmed

Huge news was released today for Battlefront fans. Following EA’s tease earlier this year that there would be sequels, we had an official release today about the very first: Star Wars Battlefront 2. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said during an earnings call yesterday that Battlefront 2 will have “bigger and better worlds.” He added that it will make use of content from “the new movies,” though he didn’t name any outright. The first Battlefront only featured content from the original Star Wars trilogy. This is going to be exciting news for fans of The Force Awakens as well. Jorgensen said: Next year we’ll see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds, because we now have the new movies to work off [and] not just the historical movies that we used before. So what else can we expect from this sequel? Well, new characters will be a start. While there have been expansion…
