Things SWTOR Can Learn from Other MMOs
MMOs are not new and as such, there are many things that one can learn from another and we often see those features that are really working being carried over from one game to another. Such is the case with SWTOR also. There are some elements of SWTOR that are typical of a Bioware game and there are also elements that we can see are modeled after other games that have done well. This is actually really common in the industry but let’s look at some ways it might be beneficial for Bioware to take some lessons from other games. Some fans over on Reddit had their own suggestions about things SWTOR could learn from other MMOs. Here are some things that made the list: Warframe: Community communication. I think the key to Warframe’s community success is that the developers and the producers are one and the same. They have…
SWTOR Patch 4.1 Maintenance Delayed due to External Networks
BioWare are having trubles with SWTOR Patch 4.1. SO far the maintenance has been delayed due to external network issue. There is currently no ETA on when the servers will come online. Maintenance: 9 February 2016 | 02.09.2016, 05:28 PM Hey folks, We are nearing my “best case scenario” of one hour. We are not ready to bring the servers live yet, but we are still looking good. We are continuing to push the update out across our live servers, where we will then test these changes again. Assuming at that point, that everything looks good, we will bring the servers online. I am being told that it is possible that all of this can be complete within an hour. So, another best case ETA of one hour from the time of this post, or 6:30 PM CT. Thanks everyone. -eric Maintenance: 9 February 2016 | 02.09.2016, 04:33 PM Hey…
SWTOR: No Conquest for the week of Feb 2-9
Due to bugs, conquest for the week of Feb 2-9 is cancelled. Hey everyone, The team has finished looking into what has caused this week’s Conquest to not start properly. Unfortunately, the issue is a bit more complex than we have experienced in the past with Conquests. Due to this, we will be implementing a fix for this with Game Update 4.1 next Tuesday. This means that there will not be a Conquest this week, as we work to address the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience. -Tait
January SWTOR Story Livestream Notes
BioWare posted a video yesterday featuring Charles Boyd and Alexander Freed. The video go over the story in Knight of the fallen empire, and upcoming content we can expect with chapter 10. KoTFE Recap Storytelling in games has the unique of challenging of having players able to see and know the villain without placing players in the same room as them as they would be dispatched quickly by the player. You need to get the villains upclose to the players to be a significant presence in their life. It would be hard to imagine Star Wars Ep4 told from only Luke’s perspective. Vader would just be a random Tie Fighter pilot. Vaylin is an unpredictable villain. She is difficult to pin down, you never know what she is going to do next. You got lots of serious figures like Arcann being very stoic. So seeing her and Arcann act entirely different…

In the Electronic Arts Reports Q3 FY16 Financial Results, it is mentioned that STAR WARS: The Old Republic grew to its highest subscriber level in nearly three years in Q3 last year. Details about the comming Eternal Championship Arena in SWTOR
Bioware has posted a lengthy list, outlining most of all the details of what to expect with the Eternal Championship Arena coming with Chapter XI. Gear Rewards from Eternal Championship | 01.22.2016, 08:46 PM Hi everyone, I’d like to share some additional details on the Eternal Championship with you. This will touch on several topics as follow: What is the story behind the Eternal Championship? The Eternal Championship is the latest trend in entertainment among Zakuul’s decadent upper class, who happily “tour” the lower levels of their capital to watch their social underlings engage in brutal death matches for fortune and glory. More details regarding the backstory will be revealed next week in the Developer Live Stream with Charles Boyd! Leading up to the launch of Game Update 4.2, we’ll also post a Developer Blog about the Eternal Championship. How does the Eternal Championship work? You start the Eternal Championship by…
SWTOR Season 6 PvP Statistics
Are you curious about how SWTOR PvP went along in Season 6? You know how we love bringing you player-based graphics, videos and other goodies? Well, here’s a good infographic that gives us a ton of interesting stats about Season 6. You can see the best solo PvP classes, some notable players like Sirox and Fitvelkiz, the best NA and EU servers and a graph of their ratings, and the links to more figures. It’s fairly simple and I would love to see even more data in there but overall, it’s a pretty decent chart. I love data so I’m all about seeing more but as I said, it’s still pretty interesting. If you want the actual figures, you can find them here. It contains much more data about class-specifics in Star Wars: The Old Republic. This spreadsheet really got my interest even more than the infographic because I just…
Star Wars: The Old Republic Deserves a Second Chance
We are not the only ones who think SWTOR deserves a second chance from those who gave up on the game early on. While launch was a bit rocky, it’s come a long way since then and the “hate” online seems to have died down some in recent months. Still, from time to time you’ll see comments from people bashing on SWTOR who have not even given it a legitimate chance recently. I get it, first impressions are incredibly important. First impressions can really make or break a game sometimes. I’ve been there myself (many times). But SWTOR is truly a game that deserves a second chance if it’s been some time since you last tried it (or if you know someone who quit and you think they might like it now). This opinion piece from Philip Kollar at Polygon expresses it all quite well. Philip was a WoW nut like me,…
TOR TV: I Roam – SWTOR Smuggler film
I Roam – SWTOR Smuggler film #BuildYourAllianceContest #ShareEveryWin KOTFE Did you enter the Build Your Alliance Contest from BioWare and Nvidia we told you about earlier this month? There’s still a little bit of time left and we have really enjoyed seeing all the great entries from fans. Here’s a little video that was made for the contest and in the spirit of #BuildYourAlliance. It’s a “Smuggler film” and plays very much like a cutscene/opening scene for a particular class or character. It’s just under 2 minutes long so it’s a very quick view if you haven’t seen it yet. Here we share with you “I Roam” from Crafted Crows. “With 6 days before the contest ends I decide to participate and I thought I would do something different than what other people did. For some reason Swtor has all those great cutscenes and I was inspired so I whipped out…
Gear Rewards from Eternal Champonship in SWTOR
Senior Designer over at BioWare Austine, Steven Chew, made a post on the official SWTOR Forums, that delivers some clarification on their gear goals for the Eternal Championship coming with Patch 4.2. Gear Rewards from Eternal Championship | 01.19.2016, 10:02 AM Hello everyone, This is Steven Chew and I’ll be coordinating as well as working on the Eternal Championship. Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone for providing their input. It’s very encouraging as a developer to hear from players who are engaged in the content that we create. I’ve been going through the posts on this feature for Game Update 4.2, and wanted to give some insight on what we’re trying to achieve with this. As mentioned in the stream, this is meant to give the solo player (with companion) a series of challenges that gets progressively harder. The goal is to have the first 5 rounds be achievable by…
KotFE Poster in TFA Style
Here’s a cool fan poster done for Knights of the Fallen Empire, in The Force Awakens style. You know how much we love fan creations here. This one is a bit raw in terms of artistic talent (the Photoshopping could use some work) but we love the creativity and idea behind it all. The poster is made by the artist bojanajokic. You can see more of her awesome work here. [Source]
Hammerhead-class cruiser from KotOR/SWTOR canonized in Star Wars Rebels
Here you can see some great pics from Star Wars Rebels. Transport ships based on Hammerhead capital ships from Knights of the Old Republic and Thranta Class Frigates from Star Wars the Old Republic, as you can see below. While it looks like the design is reused, it’s not all exactly the same. One might presume that over 3,000 years the design is obsolete as a military ship and now makes better use as transport. That would make sense, as so much can change in that time period but for many fans, it’s nice to see the familiar design of the ships from SWTOR and KOTOR. The tech in SWTOR/KOTOR was always more advanced than modern day Star Wars also, at least when it comes to fleets. If you look closely, you’ll see they are just inspired by the Hammerheads of KOTOR and SWTOR era. They’re not exactly the same thing….
Bioware respond on GTN Search Issues in SWTOR
Eric Musco replyed to a player seeking your help for the current GTN search bug. BIOWARE when are you going to fix the GTN. This is horrible behavior for a company | 01.11.2016, 08:23 PM Hey folks, I have some information regarding the current issues with search on the GTN that I wanted to share. First off, the GTN issues will not be fixed with tomorrow’s patch, 4.0.4. Now with that being said, we do think that we have started to isolate what is causing search to not work for some items. I am going to post all of those details tomorrow, and we are also going to ask for your help in gathering information. I am sure you will ask, why wait until tomorrow? Well, we believe the issue is related to whenever a server comes online. Since we have a maintenance occurring tomorrow, it is possible, even likely,…
SWTOR Updated Event Schedule for January
Out main man for SWTOR – Eric Musco – made a post on the official forums regarding the event schedule for January 2016 Updated Event Schedule | 01.08.2016, 07:11 PM Hey folks, During the month of December, it was our goal to run all of our recurring events week over week. How to Look like Poe Dameron in SWTOR
In another great installment of “how to look like ___” from SWTORista, we have how to look like Poe Dameron. We love these guides she has created that detail exactly how to create a SWTOR character that looks like character’s from the new Star Wars film, “The Force Awakens”“. Here, she tells us how to recreate Poe, the famous pilot. A snippet on getting his outfit just right: Poe’s outfit in the movie is the standard Republic starfighter suit – it’s the same as the ones in the old movies. In SWTOR, there is a few types of pilot suits available, but there is only one close to the one Poe wears in the movie. You could also try dying this uniform with an orange dye! She also tells you how to get the build, hair and face right. You can try different combos to see what comes out best…
Bioware adresses Romance and Courting Gift Bugs in SWTOR
The SWTOR Developers over at BioWare have finally shed some light on the companion romance and courting gift bugs that’s currently in the game. Dear TaitWatson: The Companion Romance System NEEDS to be fixed. | 01.07.2016, 07:41 PM Hey everyone, We have seen quite a few reports about the Romance system being broken, and I wanted to clarify a few things. A number of the issues being reported are not, in fact, bugged. The big one is Iresso. While Iresso is not alone in not acknowledging your romance, he has become the name surrounding the whole situation. In this case, there is a bug – the romance variables for some of the pre-KOTFE companions are being improperly assessed, leading to the appearance that they aren’t romanced even if they are. This fix is scheduled for 4.1 but is not finalized yet. What should have occurred is that when you completed…

How to Look like Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens in SWTOR
Even if you have not seen the new Star Wars film yet (what rock have you been living under?), you are probably familiar with Captain Phasma. We’ve seen her in a great deal of marketing promotions for Episode 7. She’s the silver-clad Stormtrooper who is seen as Kylo Ren’s right-hand man. She’s 6 foot 5 inches of badness. The actress who plays her, Gwendoline Christie, is 6’3″. You may recognize her as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, or as Commander Lyme in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. © 2015 – Lucasfilm If you’re fond of Captain Phasma, SWTORISTA gives us the breakdown of how to recreate the look in SWTOR, despite the fact the movie is set thousands of years after Star Wars: The Old Republic. Here in this article, she explains exactly how to do it and we think it’s pretty cool. Here’s a snippet: Captain Phasma…

Sithmas Cooking with the Colicoids: Building a Gingerbread Harrower-Class Warship
Sithmas Cooking: Building a Gingerbread Imperial Ship Christmas has passed but this idea is so awesome, we think it’s not too late to do it. In fact, we think it’s never too late to do it and what better idea to use up all that extra gingerbread you might have on hand this season? A plain old gingerbread house simply won’t do for a Sith. No, this Sithmas, they needed to build a gingerbread Imperial warship. First, they created a paper template from which to cut their gingerbread pieces. Then, they cut pieces from the template and baked them, then piecing them together to match the paper model. It was a messy project (which you will see from the images) but it sure looked like a lot of fun. Even the imperfections seem to make it better, in my opinion. It looks like a great way to spend an afternoon….
SWTOR 14th Most Played Game in November
While it saw a bit of a dip in the month of November, SWTOR is still in the top 20 most played games, according to Raptr. It was ranked at number 14 for this past month, just below Guild Wars 2 and above Diablo III. It’s above StarCraft II on the list for that month and only beat by behemoths like World of Warcraft, DOTA 2 and Minecraft. League of Legends still dominates the top of the list and CS:GO is also hanging on to a top spot. So what does this mean and why should you care? Well, honestly it gives us a great look at how SWTOR is still holding its own in the gaming scene, especially as an MMORPG. There are many who will try to say that SWTOR is dead or has died but the stats don’t really line up with this. Seeing the game still…
