Now, in the many years that have passed since the first Star Wars film, we’ve seen them come back in a variety of ways, including in a variety of video games. Here we have a really cool mashup of AT-AT takedowns in video games through the years. Not only is it a hilariously fun video to watch, it’s also a great compilation of the different times they have appeared in video games. Replay 300 – Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Game Informer just recently kicked off a limited series called replay 300. In this series, they play select games from their Top 300 list, regardless of their history on Replay. The first episode was Super Metroid, which was a bit nostalgic for me as well, but it was the second week that the magic really happened. For week 2 of Replay 300, they hit a different corner of space in Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. This was one of the first Star Wars games I ever played. It was also one of the first that ever got lightsabers right (although it’s debatable in the community). They brought Dark Jedi/ dark forces to the game and this wasn’t really done before either. So join Andy, Reiner, Joe, Tack and Leo as we take look back at the pulse-pounding gameplay and beautiful FMV cutscenes of a now twenty-year-old Star Wars game….
EA Working on a New Open World Star Wars Online Game
Speaking of Star Wars games (as we do around here), EA seems to be working on a new Star Wars game. Their job post gives us a few details, although you can expect they’re going to be as hushed about it as possible until they’re ready to release official information. From the sounds of it, it’s an open world Star Wars online game. Sounds good, right? EA is working on the brand new Open World Star Wars Online AAA game, according to a new Job Opportunity they are offering currently. The studio is looking for a Lead Online Engineer to join the development team. The position demands good leadership and 10+ years of experience with game development among other things. The new employee will lead a team of Engineers to accomplish the goals for the product as well as be an effective people manager to grow the talent on the team….
X-Wing Alliance Mod Project from Alaska Works
I just had to make a post today to show you this really cool project we came across. It’s not exactly new, but it’s not getting the attention it really deserves, so you may not have heard about it. This is a very impressive shader mod project with demo videos for what was one of the best Star Wars games ever made. X-Wing Alliance! The last and arguably ultimate Star Wars space combat simulator. Although it was released in 1999, several mods are available that freshen up the appearance while retaining the surprisingly deep gameplay. If you haven’t seen it yet, but you loved X-Wing Alliance, I highly recommend you head over and check it out. It’s really awesome and it will bring a big nostalgic feel as well. They have loads of information on their website here, including instructions for using the mod, but there are also some videos…
Jedi Starfighter Retro Review
Have you ever played Jedi Starfighter? If you haven’t, you might want to consider it. Check out this retro game review from Joe, The Alternative Gamer to learn what it’s all about. This is one that I really enjoyed back in the day and if you watch the full review, you’ll see some highlights of the game, as well as reasons that you might like it too. He’s going to talk about gameplay, features, controls, and how it holds up today for an older game. He talks about the unlockables and how you get them, the replayability, and more. He also talks about the split screen feature, which you may also enjoy. This is a game that has held up well over the test of time. While there are many Star Wars games that have been released over the years (and we’ve covered most of them here in one form…
The Collapse Of Visceral’s Ambitious Star Wars Game
By now, you probably have already heard that the anticipated game was canceled. It seemed like a winner, a Star Wars take on Uncharted, published by Electronic Arts and developed by the longrunning studio Visceral Games. However, we know how it goes in the land of video games and it’s not unusual for one to get the chopping block, even when it seems it will be a hit. On October 17, 2017, employees of Visceral were told the company would be closing. This meant their ambitious Star Wars game would also get the axe. The project was called Ragtag. It was meant to be EA’s entry into the action-adventure market—a linear Star Wars story set between the episode IV and V movies that would compete with the likes of Uncharted and Tomb Raider. It was lead up by Amy Hennig, iconic writer, and director who is known for her work on the Uncharted games. The team at Visceral worked hard creating…

A Gem of a Star Wars Game – Jedi Starfighter
If you never had the chance to play the game, or if you’re just looking for some nostalgic fun, check out this Jedi Starfighter Retro Review from Joe, The Alternative Gamer. He says everything I would say about this game (and likely better). I was a big fan back in the day and honestly, I’d love to go back and play it again for old time’s sake. It’s an all-around great game and a lot of fun to play. Some have called it “Rogue Squadron Lite” which is a fair assessment, really, but it’s still fun in its own right. The story itself is simple, but good enough to keep you interested. It doesn’t take away from the gameplay, but isn’t the best story around in terms of Star Wars games. That’s okay because Starfighter isn’t about that anyway. It’s about flying and fighting (duh). It’s really one of my favorite games…
Star Wars: The Card Game – Yay or Nay?
“Pilot card” (CC BY-SA 2.0) by dave_banks_geekdad Since December 2012, Star Wars: The Card Game has been ‘a thing’. In fact, even those unfamiliar with the film franchise may have played this two-player Living Card Game (LCG) set within Episodes IV, V and VI of the Star Wars story. With the next Star Wars film, The Last Jedi set to reach our cinema screens next month, this card game is almost certain to get some game time over the Christmas season, so we thought it’d be a good idea to give you the lowdown on the mechanics of the game and why it is winning over a new generation of Star Wars fans. How does it work? The basic concept of the game is that player one takes charge of a Light Side faction card deck e.g. the Rebel Alliance, while player two controls a Dark Side faction card deck e.g. the Sith…
The Best Star Wars Games So Far
The Best Star Wars Games So Far When it comes to video game adaptations of films or licenced properties, the Star Wars franchise is certainly one of the most successful, having maintained a reasonably high standard of games over the years. This is not to say there haven’t been any duds. We are all keenly aware of how bad Force Unleashed 2 was; challenging the prequel trilogy for worst Star Wars idea/execution ever. That being said, there have been some absolutely stunners that recreate the Star Wars universe in magnificent detail and enhance the franchise in every way. Here is a short list of games that will go down in history as the best so far. Star Wars: Dark Forces One of the earliest and most revolutionary Star Wars games to take the franchise to where it is now was Dark Forces. This game did a brilliant job of bringing…
Visceral studio closing down. Unnamed Star Wars game moved to EA Vancouver
EA posted an update on the VISCERAL Star Wars project late last night. According to EA’s Vice President Patrick Söderlund, the studio is being closed down, and the game is being moved over to other EA studios, which will see the game through until its release. The Star Wars title was announced in 2013, and had that former Uncharted and Naughty Dog director Amy Hennig on the team, who was co-writing the title with Todd Stashwick. Posted by Patrick Söderlund Our industry is evolving faster and more dramatically than ever before. The games we want to play and spend time with, the experiences we want to have in those games, and the way we play…all those things are continually changing. So is the way games are made. In this fast-moving space, we are always focused on creating experiences that our players want to play…and today, that means we’re making a significant change with one of our…
Star Wars to Eve Online- Sandbox MMORPG Discussion
CaptainShack from TheXPGamers has a video from mid-2016 that you might have missed if you’re not a regular follower. As a forewarning, it does have strong language, like most of his videos, but you might find the topic of discussion interesting. What IS a proper sandbox MMO in the first place? How do you define it? CaptainShack is going to tell us how he defines it and then why he thinks many Star Wars games up to this point are not hitting the mark. So how does Star Wars measure up with Eve Online when it comes to the topic of sandbox MMO play? I have played MMOs since Ultima Online (mentioned in the video) and I played WoW from beta and did enjoy it. I understand the reasoning behind other MMORPGs basing their games on WoW. I mean, why fix what isn’t broken? That said, there has been a great need…

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast VR with a Gamepad
Who here loved Jedi Knight II: Outcast? I will raise my hand to that, for sure! It was an awesome game. In fact, it has been considered to be one of the best games in the Star Wars franchise history, so I am not alone in my love of it. They just don’t make them like they used to, right? Well, this new game mod let’s you experience the greatness of the game in VR (Raven). Talk about old meeting new! Modder Jochen Leopold has crafted a VR mod for the 2002 classic Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. The mod itself is playable on the Oculus Rift and uses a gamepad for control instead of the Rift’s Oculus Touch controllers. Less than a month ago, the first Jedi Outcast VR version was released, but he’s not going to stop there. He’s still working on it and you can expect there…
This Star Wars Indie Game Looks Amazing – The Galactic Civil War
I really love indie games. My Steam account is full of indie games I’ve purchased over the years. Some are better than others but I always find it worth my time to check them out, and I love supporting the game development community. So, we are happy to tell you about this game: The Galactic Civil War. It has a 9.4 out of 10 community rating on Indiedb.com, which is very good. It has 10/10 and lots of praise, so it’s definitely one you will want to consider if you like Star Wars games. You’re not going to waste your time with this one. Here is a summary from the creator: “The Galactic Civil War is a free, standalone game based on the struggle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. Just go ahead and try it. You can take a vessel and fly from ground to space. You…
The Best Star Wars Game Never Made? – Investigating Star Wars 1313
You know how we love Star Wars games around here, and this isn’t the first time a game we were excited about has been cancelled, but Star Wars 1313 was unique in that it had a gritty, darker feel to it than any other Star Wars game to come out before it. It really spoke to an older audience and it was going to be a great 3rd person shooter, even without the Star Wars theme to it. Add that element, that you could be your own bounty hunter, and you can see why it really stood out to a certain class of fans. It was also evolved to look like Boba Fett would be the lead in this game. Either way, it was never meant to be, so we’d never see this come to life. If you want to learn more about the game that would never be, check…
Star Wars Dominates Mobile Gaming Market by Covering all Bases
Platforms such as Android and iOS (iPhone and iPad) control the bulk of the mobile market. Chances are, you or someone you know owns at least one device powered by one of those two platforms. No matter which platform you play on, there are a few commonly shared traits. More than likely you are playing using the touch screen only (i.e., not using a bulky Bluetooth controller accessory). You have Internet access either via cellular data or via local Wi-Fi. If you are reading this then you are obviously a Star Wars fan. Being a mobile gamer today and a fan of the legacy in a galaxy far, far away is a good thing to be. The question is, has it always been this good for fans of the story George Lucas started? Star Wars fans have some of the widest choices in games to play. From collectible card games…
Star Wars the Force Unleashed 3 Prototype Footage
Here is some great footage of Star Wars the Force Unleashed 3 from a prototype. Credit goes to Corra_Ashu for uploading the original footage although we are not sure where that person originally got it either. It’s still pretty cool to look at and it really gives us an idea of what this game could have been. As we’ve written about plenty of times here, the Star Wars universe is no stranger to cancelled projects, especially when it comes to games. We have seen so many cancelled Star Wars games, it’s almost difficult to count. One project that was unfortunately killed was the third installment of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. This is a game that fans of the series were definitely looking forward to so it was a bit letdown when they announced it was cancelled. Really, it never even got as far off the ground as some other cancelled…
A History of Cancelled Star Wars Games
““Star Wars is one of the most popular settings in all of video games, so it’s no surprise that its owners are continually looking to create new bestselling games in the galaxy far, far away. But for every smash-hit like the Jedi Knight series, Battlefront, and Knights of the Old Republic, there are several games that never see the light of day. Games are cancelled for any of a number of reasons. But whether it’s the publisher canning the game late in development or an early concept that never gets fleshed out, it’s always disappointing to see games with huge potential left on the cutting room floor.” How many times have we written about a cancelled Star Wars game here? Even worse is when we tell you about a new game in the making that we’re really excited for, only to find out later, it’s been cut. We hate bringing…
Star Wars Gaming Interactive Timeline
Star Wars video games go back to 1982 (a year I am also fond of because it brought me to the world). Some readers may not be old enough to remember the earliest Star Wars games but it’s safe to say any Star Wars fan knows that there have been many more than just the recent surge in games. What if there was a way to see them all in one place? What if you could literally track Star Wars gaming back to 1982? Well, you can. Of course you can. This is the internet and the internet has everything. Huge thanks to Josh Bush (who goes by the name of “Cheese”) who has made this a possibility via an interactive timeline. The timeline covers basically every Star Wars game released, from the Empire Strike Back title published for the Atari 2600 in 1982 to Force Arena, which arrived to mobile platforms just…
Star Wars Games Bootlegs and Hacks
We’ve seen many Star Wars games: some good, some bad, some never released, but how about the hacks? YouTuber SpaceHamster gives us the rundown of some comically bad hacks bearing the Star Wars name. Some of these hacks are low effort ventures: Escape from Hoth inserts a tiny, pixelated Millennium Falcon into the Atari game Asteroids, for instance. There’s also a hack that inserts the name of iconic Star Wars characters into the NES game Baseball Stars but is otherwise identical to the original game. Other hacks are hilarious for the scenarios they generate. A fine example is a Battle City hack that puts Luke in the Death Star with an assault rifle. Another is the Yoda Bros., a minimalist, one-level hack of Super Mario Bros. Some hacks don’t even pretend to make much sense. Star Wars: Jedy (yes, that’s how it’s actually spelled) hacks the Sega Genesis game Wolfchild…
Concept Art Revealed from Cancelled Darth Maul Video Game
Do you remember that Darth Maul video game that was being developed by Red Fly Studios a few years ago? Many fans were sad to see it put on ice after Lucas sold the Star Wars license over to Disney. Alas, it was yet another canned Star Wars games and since Darth Maul had a pretty big following among fans, the disappointment was definitely real. If you didn’t hear about this game back then, it really sounded cool. Since the game was cancelled, we have seen some concept art appear here and there, showing us what might have been. Now, conceptual artist Thomas A. Szakolczay has updated his website with even more concept art from the defunct game. “Back in 2011, I was fortunate enough to work with Lucas Arts and Red Fly Studios to help develop the look direction for a new Star Wars IP that centered around Darth…
Gaming History : Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast – “The Jedi Simulator”
Back before the Disney Era, back before Electronic Arts was the only company allowed to make Star Wars games, there was a series named Star Wars Dark Forces Jedi Knight, staring the bearded wonder himself, Kyle Katarn. And though his age has long passed, let us remember that one day, long ago, there existed something called a Jedi Sim. GaminGHD has a great video that takes us back in time to enjoy a bit of nostalgic video game and Star Wars history. Here’s a great blast from the past, especially as we look at new Star Wars games coming out today and lament the many cancelled Star Wars games that will sadly never see the light of the day. Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 was a first and third-person action game set in the Star Wars: Jedi Knight series. It was available for Windows, the Xbox, and the GameCube and released in 2002….
