Star Wars introduces its first LGBT character to canon

Star Wars is introducing a new character, Moff Mors, and she is a lesbian. In Paul S. Kemp’s upcoming Star Wars: Lords of the Sith novel, Moff Mors is the first LGBT character that will officially be introduced in Star Wars when the book is released in April. The editor at Star Wars book publisher, Shelly Shapiro, has confirmed the news of the character and her sexuality during an interview on Big Shiny Robot’s “Full of Sith,” podcast. She is being described as a fully capable Imperial leader and spends most of her time trying to prevent failure. Shapiro has stated that Mors will be the first official LGBT character in Star Wars but there have been gay characters in other median set in space. One example is in Karen Traviss’ Legacy of the Force books; Mandalorians, Goran Beviin and Medrit Vasur were married in one of the novels. Star…

Does ‘Battlefield Hardline’ Resolution Bode Ill For ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’?

After a showing of the new Star Wars: Battlefront game was held behind closed doors during the Game Developers Conference, fans are anxiously waiting to see a sneak peak too. However, some are worried that the release of Battlefield: Hardline will put a damper on enthusiasm. Battlefield: Hardline will is using the same engine and is running at sub-1080p resolution on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Could this possibly spoil Star Wars: Battlefront’s design and graphics? The beta for Battlefield: Hardline was supposedly running at 900p on the PlayStation 4 and 720p on the Xbox One. Some have suspected that it would be running at the same resolution rate as Battlefield 4. The developer for the game, Visceral Games, has officially confirmed this after they tweeted on Sunday. Battlefield: Hardline is running at 60 frames per second on both gaming platforms and this is considered the standard for…

At Least 20 New Star Wars Books in the Works

Entertainment Weekly just shared some big news: Disney will be publishing at least 20 new books that will fill the 32-year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The books will come in many formats: novels, storybooks, and sticker books have been mentioned (we can only hope for graphic novels). The series will be called Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The books will detail the adventures of Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewie leading up to the forthcoming film, and will contain a number of elements that foreshadow events to come. A number of different publishers will be involved, including Disney itself, DK, Marvel, and Del Rey. We don’t know what will be contained in these books, or who the authors are, but they’re sure to bring some surprises, especially with how closely the plot of The Force Awakens has been guarded. There’s no listing of the books planned or potential…

Veteran BioWare Writer Moves to Secret New Project

Mr. David Gaider, veteran KOTOR writer, has announced he is making a major change. A few days ago,  he announced on Twitter that he is leaving Dragon Age and the team so that he can work on a secret game from BioWare. While it’s hard to leave Dragon Age behind, 10 years is a long time to work on any one project. I decided it was time for something new. — David Gaider (@davidgaider) March 3, 2015 Mr. Gaider worked on many different BioWare games including, Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars the old Repubublic.  He also worked on Dragoan age Origins, Dragon Age II, and Dragon Age: Inquisition , as well as older games like Neverwinter Nights. Pencak Silat to Appear in The Force Awakens?

If you’ve seen The Raid, The Raid 2, or Merantau Warrior, you’ve seen Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian display their impressive martial arts skills. And while there’s been a lot of noise around the fact that Simon Pegg could show up in The Force Awakens, not nearly enough people are excited about Uwais and Ruhian. Along with Cecep Arif Rahman, another practitioner of the Indonesian martial art known as Pencak Silat, these two have been announced as “performing fight work” in the upcoming installation of Star Wars. Exactly what this means isn’t clear—whether they’ll actually be featured in the film, if they’ll be serving as stunt performers, or if they’ll be involved in fight choreography (Uwais was the lead fight choreographer behind the amazing fight scenes in The Raid 2) is unknown. No matter how they’re involved, it seems likely that the influence of Silat could be seen in the fight scenes of The Force Awakens. While Merantau Warrior didn’t get…

Battlefront Footage Shown to Retailers Behind Closed Doors…Oh, Come on!

For the commoner, the last (and first) glimpse at actual Star Wars: Battlefront in-game footage came at the 2014 E3. Since then, while the team behind the project was obviously busy churning out content, not much else saw the light of day about the game, save for some rumors here and there, just enough to keep the hype-machine chugging along. A few days ago though, a select few were granted the privilege to take in some Battlefront magic, as retailers were finally shown some game-play, and fortunately for the community, at one of these events organized for GameStop, EA COO Peter Moore decided to fire out a few rousing tweets. According to him, the audience gave a “superb ovation” to the footage shown, which is pretty much what happened back at the E3 last year too. Having said that much though, Moore didn’t bother providing any other details, leaving the…

Star Wars Battlefront 3: Carrying Over Battlefield Community Features, Respawn On Board?

There is a new video regarding Star Wars: Battlefront, courtesy of Star Wars HQ, and you can subscribe to them on YouTube here. DICE’s sister company, Respawn, has announced that they have split the team up. The larger team is continuing their work on Titanfall, and the smaller team, which is headed by Stig Asmussen, is working on an unannounced project. Most people think the smaller team could be working on Battlefront, more specifically, its online system. Titanfall has been criticized for its matchmaking, but it has not went offline since its launch. The Community Test Environment has been setup for Battlefield’s premium subscribers as a privilege. These subscribers have the ability to try out new weapons, maps, and more. The Community Map Project is quite similar to this. DICE has encouraged fans to give them maps from scratch and this time they want an emphasis to be on fan…

Will Star Wars: Episode 7 be the first $3bn movie?

With many of the original actors and the return of the original Chewbacca, R2D2, and C3PO, it’s no wonder that Star Wars fans are psyched about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII film. Earlier last year, The Wrap had reported that some analysts are saying they think Episode VII will reach $2 billion at the worldwide box office. The only others who have reached this staggering number are James Cameron’s Titanic and Avatar. We think that reaching this amazing height is extremely possible as long as Abrams gets the mix of the old and the new right. In order for Episode VII to reach these heights, it would need to surpass Avatar’s $2.78 billion haul, and then it would likely become the world’s first $3 billion movie. In 1977, the first Star Wars film was released and only a few thousand people were familiar with Star Wars. However, the news…

Will Luke Finally Turn to the Dark Side in The Force Awakens?

Plot rumors about The Force Awakens are a dime a dozen, and they continue to come fast and furious, despite J.J. Abrams’ and Lucasfilm’s attempts to stifle leaks. One of the interesting potential plot points that people have been mulling over lately is Luke’s ultimate fate: will he remain a force of good? Or will he follow in Anakin’s footsteps and succumb to the lure of the Dark side? Mark Hamill has stated that he thought Luke would be headed down a Darker path at the end of the original trilogy, but that didn’t play out. Some people think that we could see it this December, but there isn’t much evidence for that. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney try to shatter a few people’s expectations for a typical Star Wars movie, but going as far as turning Luke to the Dark side seems a bit unlikely. The tension between…
