Additional Personnel Files and Four More Picks for You

From the developer blogs, we have some very useful personnel files that tell us a bit more about some of the SWTOR crew in upcoming operations. MESSAGE SOURCE: Lord Krovos RECIPIENT: Admiral Ranken REGARDING: Additional Recruitment MESSAGE READS: As you requested, our recruiters have secured four additional personnel to serve as flight crew in our forthcoming operations. I have collected their relevant data and my own notes below. They are an unorthodox lot, but I am confident we will find use for them all in time. NAME: Aven Geth SPECIES: Human AGE: 25 HOMEWORLD: Dromund Kaas RELEVANT SKILLS: Experienced shield technician. Has demonstrated admirable skill in combat situations. NOTES: Geth was officially discharged from the Imperial Navy under unclear circumstances unrelated to his mission performance – some kind of political maneuvering, no doubt, and nothing worthy of our concern. His eagerness to prove himself and return to official Imperial service will make him an enthusiastic asset….

Last Chance to Get Great SWTOR Gear from JINX

We told you about awesome SWTOR t-shirts from JINX back when they first came out with them. They also have some other cool stuff like keychains and stickers/decals. But sadly, they won’t be carrying these items any longer and once an items goes out of stock, it’s gone forever. They’ve having a massive sellout sale just in time for the holidays and you can get your favorites at some pretty rocking prices. I found a t-shirt I wanted at only $9.99. And if you’ve never had a JINX shirt before, they are really high quality. The images stay on after many washes and they are soft and comfortable to wear so you’re getting good quality. See the entire Star Wars Collection here. One longtime favorite has been the Frog-Dogs and Rottworms Huttball T-shirts. They have men’s tees and women’s tees and they also have some cool hats. But sizes are…

Happy SWTOR Two Year Anniversary from the Community Team

We just passed the two-year anniversary of SWTOR. The funny part is today is my son’s birthday and I remember two years ago wondering which was coming first- my baby, or launch. For those of you who have been with us since the early days, you know we spent years prepping for this. It’s hard to believe sometimes that the game has been out two years already. Anyway, the SWTOR Community Team had some things to share with us all to commemorate the occasion. You can read the whole thing on their blog here. But let’s look at some snippets. From Courtney “The three things come to mind when I think back two years ago to the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic: Blood, sweat, and tears. Okay, maybe more like coffee, that tingly feeling behind the eyeballs, and adrenaline. But it is safe to say that I will never…

Any feedback negative or positive is most appreciated. Warning: Contains minor spoiler about Republic Makeb. Page One  Page Two The fan comic was created using a combination of Photoshop & Manga Studio EX 5. Star Wars Car becomes Internet Sensation

The true star of the show was this car in the employee parking lot, captured by “monsterbrick” on Flickr. For a little background, this was from a Legoland Star Wars day promotion and Monsterbrick is a huge Lego fan that creates some pretty awesome stuff in addition to having a seemingly amazing collection that makes me very jealous. (More about this later). The pics are from 2009 but are making a reappearance in popularity on the Internet. Perhaps because of the revive of Star Wars fandom? Who knows but if you never saw it before, you’re going to love it. And if you did, you might still enjoy seeing it again. It started out simple enough as he set out to log his finding from his Flickr. Here’s something you definitely don’t see everyday: And then he got us a great shot from the driver’s side with this commentary: “harder…

SWTOR Life Day Event Guide

Here is a short and simple guide to help you complete SWTOR Life Day event. First, you need to go to the Galactic Trade Market area in the fleet. Look for a Master of Ceremonies NPC. He will be near the GTN. He sells several items but you’ll want to buy Life Day Snowball Bomb to start. It’s an ability that you put on your hotbar. This will let you throw snowballs at other players and at NPCs. The ability has a 15s cooldown. Now you’re going to be trying to get snow-covered parcels, which are the currency for this event and will allow you to trade it for cool rewards, specific to this SWTOR event only. So you need to throw snowballs at other players to get the Snow-Covered Parcels. You can get parcels from other players even if they have the debuff. You can also manually click your…

KOTOR is Getting a Supermassive Update

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is by far one of the best games ever based on the Star Wars series. Fans were super happy to learn that it was being released for the iPad earlier this year. But now there is news that a supermassive update is on the way. IGN tells us more about this update: A new update for Knights of the Old Republic on iOS will add support for non-iPad devices, improve its visuals, update the user interface, and introduce controller support. Bioware’s excellent Star Wars RPG was brought to iOS exclusively on iPad earlier this year, but the new update supports the iPhone (4S or newer) and the iPod Touch (fifth generation). The update also takes advantage of the hardware’s retina displays, with improved visuals, bloom lighting (on A7 model iOS hardware), shadows, and widescreen support. To support the wider resolution, the user interface…

SWTOR Guide: How to Build a Blackbolt/NovaDive Galactic Scout Starfighter

This SWTOR guide is designed to give you a general idea of how to build a Blackbolt/NovaDive Galactic Scout Starfighter. You can use different components when building your Scout but this will give you a general idea of how to get started. Each of the following components are discussed below: Engine, shields, sensors, thruster, systems, capacitor, armor, primary and secondary weapons. Engine Maneuvers You can choose between the four different engine maneuvers listed below. All of them have 15 second recharge on use and when activated, they will all evade lock-on missiles. They also help you elude direct blaster fire by up to 30 percent for three seconds. The Barrel Roll– Allows you to roll the ship 360-degrees forward, which helps move you forward a long distance but you do need enough space to execute the roll so you don’t hit anything during the move and self-destruct. This maneuver is…

Kinect Star Wars Developer Terminal Reality Reports Shut Down

Many great game developers are kicking the bucket these days and now you can add Terminal Reality to the list. The Texas-based developer has apparently been closed. Gamasutra reports that Jesse Sosa has claimed on Facebook that the studio “seems to have finally shut down”. Sosa posts: “For those that have known me for a long time know that I was at TRI for 10 years. TRI seems to have finally shut down. A lot of different emotions are passing through me at the moment. I left there when I saw things going downhill but I have always kept up with them and hoped for the best. Now that they’re gone, I’m just kind of feeling nostalgic it seems. I hope they all land on their feet. Most of those guys are still like family to me. I know a good amount are on their way to Austin, so at least I’ll…

How to play Galactic Starfighter with an Xbox 360 Controller

Galactic Starfighter… we never could have seen that one coming back in 2011 when SWTOR first launched. But we found a fun little nugget at darthhater.com that suggests that maybe they can use The Force. This post they made about using an old Xbox gamepad with the old style rails space game is pretty interesting now that we have Galactic Starfighter. Many SWTOR players have been complaining about how the GSF doesn’t have a joystick capability. But this little trick the Darth Hater crew found out about years ago should work. Note: You will need the JoyToKey software, our config file (right click/save as), an Xbox 360 Controller, an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver, and Windows for this to work. They even have a video for us: Text Tutorial from DarthHater: Download JoyToKey. Extract it somewhere you want it to live on your hard drive. Download our cfg file. Star Wars Episode 7 Rumor Roundup December 1

It’s that time again… time to bring you another rumor roundup of Star Wars Episode 7. We’re getting even closer to the release of the first of the new films and we still don’t know a lot about them. But new facts are being released or confirmed every so often. As always, take these rumors with a grain of salt because we don’t know if there is any true to them. But here are some interesting new tidbits going around. Jedi Master SQL of Jedi News has some speculation about Episode VII: –          Lucasfilm has a great deal of news about Ep 7 that they could release at any time they choose –          On returning actors, he has only seen evidence of one of the “Big 3” possibly returning –          Dark Horse is likely to keep the comic license and “you can expect to see their logo on a lot…

EA Allegedly Working on New Open World Star Wars Game

If we can believe the newest rumors going around, EA is working on a new open world Star Wars game. Kotaku broke the news, which was spotted in a job listing: “EA Canada is looking for an experienced Animation director to help define and deliver on the vision for a major new next gen open world action game.” The game will probably be the second or third AAA title released after the deal from EA with Disney and Lucasfilms. As we reported recently, this gives EA 10 years of exclusivity with Star Wars video games. This means we can expect to see a little bit of everything coming soon. There will be games for the PC, for consoles and maybe even mobile or Facebook games. While these games will be Star Wars based, we can expect to feel a touch of EA on each of them as well. The first…

Problems with Arena Matchmaking

If you’ve spent any time trying solo arenas, you may have seen that most often the teams don’t come out very evenly matched, despite claims that they should be. It reminds me of early arenas in WoW, where the dominant teams would match up against newbie teams and it was a massive steamroll. Honestly, it’s just not fun to play like this and it discourages players from wanting to sign up for arenas. Some of the matches in SWTOR arenas just don’t make a lot of sense. Above is one example of such a game, but it happens a lot. And when repeated games give you a matchup where one team is clearly dominant over the other and there isn’t even a fair chance, it just isn’t fun anymore. What’s the point of signing up? There are some clear class composition issues as well as ranking issues. When one team has an…

How to Level Fast in the Double XP Weekend

Double XP weekend is here again and this is a great time to level up any alts or get your main toon to max level, or bring in friends and family over the holidays and help them get leveled up to max as well. If you take advantage of all the potential experience boosts, you could be looking at: So you’re looking at… 100% for base xp gain +20% for being a subscriber +10% for being in a guild +25% with a boost multiplied by 2 for the XP weekend You also get double the legacy xp perks for pvp and class missions. I believe the number was 310% for that and even higher with guild bonus. Sub bonus was already accounted for so you’re looking at: 100 + 25 (xp boost) + 30 (legacy perk) + 10 (guild bonus) * 2 = 330% With a potential for 330%, you…

Goodbye Moon — By Darth Vader

A bedtime story, Star Wars style… Darth Vader puts baby Leia to bed with a little help from every Sith Lord’s favorite soothing nighty-night tale of conquest and destruction: “Goodbye Moon!” I stumbled upon this little funny the other day and my kids love it. It’s a spoof on the famous “Goodnight Moon” story that most American children know well. But no one has ever told the story as well as Vader does in this version. “Goodnight Moon is an American children’s book written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd. It was first published in 1947, and is a highly acclaimed example of a bedtime story.” – Wikipedia (idea, text, and video by Andy Clinton)(most screen caps from starwarsscreencaps.com)(music by Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star) Check it out!
