Star Wars Fan Film: Whisper in the Dark

Star Wars Fan Film Whisper in the Dark

It’s fan film time again! I really do love fan films and they bring out the best of the Star Wars community. people geeking out over what they love and coming together to bring other fans some fun and enjoyment as well. Even the “bad” fan films are good because they embody the spirit of what we love about Star Wars. Some of them are cheesy, some of them may not have professional-quality sound, or acting, or lighting. But they all embody the spirit of Star Wars and they nearly always have a great story. I suppose that is part of why I like them so much. So, here’s a fun one to entertain you for a bit. It’s just at 15 minutes long so you can watch it on a break even. It’s from TheJW Phillips and hopefully we see more from them in the future. Set in a…

Vader Episode 1: Shards of the Past

You know how we love our fan films here but we haven’t had any for you in a while. That is going to change today, however, because we have stumbled across an awesome new film for you to enjoy. As far as fan films go, this one is really top of the game. It will keep you hooked from start to finish and it really shows that it IS possible to take older characters and bring them back in new stories and new ways and it works. And it doesn’t feel like a fan film. That’s probably one of the best parts. It doesn’t feel like people in costumes. It is immersive. It is realistic. It will suck you in and you’ll forget it’s not an official film. In fact, some fans even feel like it’s better than some of the new official films we’re getting in the franchise. Yeah,…

One day I’ll become… (Star Wars fan film)

You know how we love our fan films here. Here’s a little golden nugget that is absolutely worth your time to watch. It clocks in at just under 12 minutes, but they have absolutely done a lot with the time they have here. They say that they had no budget for this and it’s honestly amazing what they’ve created from so little. True talent is displayed here and I hope we’ll be able to see more films from him because it’s fantastic. For a fan film, it’s truly impressive. The quality is there, the story, and the visual effects are also amazing. It could easily be a tie-in or trailer to a professional Star Wars film. From Roman Gregorička: “This is a short fan film, our tribute to the Star Wars saga.It was made only with delight, enthusiasm and a zero budget.” See for yourself here: “It has always been my dream…

The Fallen Knight – A Kylo Ren Origin Story – Star Wars Fan Film

Here we go… it’s time for another Star Wars fan film review. You guys know how much I love these. So, this one is all about Kylo Ren. This film from RZM Productions checks in at just over 22 minutes long and tells us the origin story of Kylo Ren. It has great acting, a great story, and it’s as professional as I’ve seen a fan film come (although it was well funded by the community). If you have not seen it yet, go ahead and take some time to sit down and give it a watch. You won’t be sorry. It is really a unique and fantastic story that leaves you asking more questions. It would be great to see where this same team would carry the story if they had the chance to do so. If you’re sitting around on winter break looking for a great way to pass some…

Kylo Ren: Smuggler’s Son (A Star Wars Fan Film)

Brought to you by Shattered Star Productions, here’s a short (just over 10 minutes long) fan film that we absolutely love. The story is moving, the special effects are great, and the entire production is well done. If you’re into Star Wars fan films, here’s another you’re going to want to check out. Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be a smuggler’s son? What kind of family life would a smuggler have? Honestly, the real reason many of them had no family at all is because it’s easier to fly solo than to be away from the ones who care about you. Here’s a film that touches on some of those issues. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away… The Dark Side of the Force has a new acolyte: the young man once known as Ben Solo, but who now terrorizes the galaxy…

Regrets of the Past – Star Wars Fan Film

I love Star Wars fan films, something you probably already know if you’ve been following the site for any length of time. There is no shortage of these films on the internet today but some far outside the others when it comes to quality, story, and all those other things that make a great film. Here’s one that is definitely worth the watch. A lot more work went into this than what we see with short films and it shows. It’s nearly an hour long and it had more than 150 people on the crew. Many working professionals put their own spare time into this project to make it possible for us to enjoy. It’s amazing and is truly a cut above many of the others we write about and share with you here on the site. This one deserves more views. So go ahead and pop some popcorn, or…

Star Wars: Rise of the Empire – A Star Wars Fan Film

An empire will rise. Join the rebels in the biggest battles across the galaxy in this epic Star Wars fan film. This is a really awesome fan film from BTV that you have to see for yourself. Created entirely in GTA V using mods, this was an exhaustive creation with over 125 shots and fx, Rise of the Empire is their biggest Grand Theft Auto machinima. This is absolutely stunning! Visually it’s bright and crisp. The story and cinematography are engaging. The sound effects and music are spot-on. This film will get you excited just the way a Star Wars film should. You’ll be on the edge of your seat to see what happens next. Personally, I’m a fan of machinima already. I think it takes a lot of creativity and they can be so much fun to watch but this one goes above and beyond most I have seen. It’s clean, it’s realistic,…

Star Wars: LIBERATION – Fan Film

You know how we love the Star Wars fan films. Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to bring you a great fan film so I think we are overdue. In this film, Liberation, we learn the story of a prisoner of war trying to negotiate a way out from his captors. The negotiation goes south quickly when he realizes they aren’t telling him the truth and it only gets more interesting from there. It’s just over 11 minutes long so this short will not take up a lot of your time but it definitely will leaving you wishing there was more. It’s a fun little watch and we highly recommend you give it a go for yourself. “It is a time of great peril for the Rebel Alliance. Dark Jedi Revan’s Apprentice Fan Film

You know how we like our fan films around here and also how we love pointing out some of the best and sharing with you. Here’s a cool little video we came across that’s under seven minutes long but really pulls you into the story. It’s not perfect. It’s not professionally made, but it’s a good start and while they said this was just done for a school assignment, I’d love to see them make some more short films. They have a little something going here for just a student and some friend volunteers. So if you want something creative to pass a little time, we highly suggest you check it out. It’s a fun little fan film. Zoukmazing says of the video, “This was zero budget with no crew, and made for a visual effects uni assignment. I spent many sleepless nights to get this completed on time. Not made for…

The Best April Fools’ Gag this Year

If you missed it the other day, you must see this trailer for Fury of Maul on Netflix. Really, if you weren’t already a Netflix lover, would this not make you subscribe immediately? ““Happy April Fools’ Day! Darth Maul makes his live-action series debut on Netflix! A mysterious, dark power is butchering those on both the light and dark side of the Force.” Directed and Shot by Sean Finnegan Seriously, this looks awesome. If you didn’t know already, it was just an April Fool’s joke from IGN and that’s really too bad because it would make a great series. Star Wars fans everywhere can cry like that poor little boy who’s dad let him watch not knowing it was prank. May we all go to our beds and bawl our eyes out because this will never come to be. Honestly, April Fool’s pranks are the worst, are they not? I…

“Kara” A Star Wars Fan Film

Star Wars fan films… oh, you know how much we love them! Here is a fun one put out by A Whitelist Production just a couple of weeks ago. It’s called “Kara” and it’s a little over 7 minutes long so it’s not going to eat up your entire afternoon to give it a watch. I will say this though: it left me wanting to see more from these guys. For an unofficial Star Wars film, it’s pretty darn good. It’s not Hollywood perfect quality but it’s really darn good and has a good feel to the story. Because they kept it so short and sweet, I think it even adds more to the appeal. Some of these fan films are too drawn out and it makes it much more difficult to capture and hold the attention of the audience for that length of time. It also draws us in,…

The Weight of Forgiveness – Star Wars Fan Film

We have something fun and interesting to bring you today. This just released Star wars fan film has our attention. It’s called “The Weight of Forgiveness” and it’s all about the birth of a Jedi. It’s in Italian and it’s about 15 minutes or so in length so it’s a short watch. There are different possible interpretations of the short, which is part of its appeal. The synopsis says it is a Star Wars fan film “open to interpretation” and there have already been several ideas as to what it all means. If you know and love Star Wars (like all of us here do), you may appreciate it on those grounds alone but we ask you to watch it with an open mind and don’t limit yourself just to the Star Wars universe, then see what you think of it. Some say it is the story of redemption of…

Tales from the Imperial Fleet

Major Brelga shifted uncomfortably. Sith Lords were always unsettling – a fact someone serving the Empire quickly came to terms with – but Lord Veskis made him especially uneasy. “So Major,” hissed the hooded figure. “Do we have a deal?” “… so I slammed the Jedi against the cliff face, then turned and sliced his padawan nearly in half! The soldiers with them wet themselves and ran!” “My dear, you’re so beautiful when the bloodlust rises in you <3” “Did you see the new robes Darth Jiannis was wearing? It looks like she skinned a Varactyl for them.” “Ugh, I know. It’s like all the good fashion designers work for the Republic.”” “Reports say the base was obliterated. Excellent work, hunter! My Lieutenant objected to collaborating with savage aliens. But he was wrong about you and your team!” “Ah yes, Lieutenant Orbos. A real… shame he didn’t survive the battle….

Our good friends over at RepublicTrooper.com, has something really interesting to keep you entertained – least part of the time that you are waiting on that December 20th launch date. Mike Kern brings us Secrets of the Mind part 1 and 2 for your enjoyment. Here’s a snippet of Part 1: Marik watched his sister float in bacta, unchanged for weeks. After the disaster on Balmorra, he had gone for more intensive combat training while she underwent surgery after surgery. Despite all the efforts of a dozen surgeons, Kira had lapsed into a coma. Leaving her side was the hardest thing he’d ever done and the six weeks spent on Ord Mantell had felt like six months. Returning to Coruscant was all he wanted and now that he was here, he felt helpless and useless. “I-S-One Thorne.” Marik stiffened and snapped to attention as he whirled on his heel. The voice…
