The Guild Sphere: Krayt

It’s Monday and time for a new guild feature to start of the week. This time I had the chance to talk to the guild leader Shadowreborn and Lead Officer Miahmite from the republic guild Krayt. Enjoy!

Where did your guilds name come from?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “We thought about this for a long time. Many names were thrown around and eventually we settled on Krayt. In the star wars universe the Krayt dragons were hunted for their pearls and could be embedded into light sabers as a power source. This was mainly a tribute to the beautiful creatures they are and a send-off to the game star wars galaxies that closes December of 2011.””

Can you give me a quick 2-3 sentence description of your guild?
Lead Officer Miahmite: ” We are family and friends but not limited to that. In Krayt, every member has an opportunity to contribute to both the guild and the SWTOR community in their own unique way. We aim to make a very positive social, economic, and cultural impact on the SWTOR universe.””

How did your guild come about?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “I formed this guild in particular for a few reasons. First and foremost, I love what i do. I have been leading or advising guilds since 2003. It is something that i enjoy being involved in. And from the feedback over the years, people enjoy my leadership. But I can’t take full credit. Your members make your guild what it is and will become. We wanted to give ourselves a structure to build upon in SWTOR. And more importantly wanted our members to enjoy what we have built. It made perfect sense to us to make that relationship a reality.”

What kind of play style do you focus on? PvE, PvP, RP:
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “We are heavy PVE players. We do PVP and RP but in the part-time sense. We don’t feel that we should restrict any members play-style to fit our own though. In other words if we were to recruit a member that loves PVP I would never require them to PVE with us for any reason unless they wanted to. No one should feel restricted while trying to have fun on a game they love.”

What is your guild set up? How do you run your guild?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “Our guild is set up currently for recruitment. This phase for us is important for finding like-minded people interested in entering SWTOR and experiencing the game together. Getting to know one another for our future. I will run this guild the same as I have since 2003. I will offer a home for members to learn from us and learn from them as well. I am very nonrestrictive when I run my guild. We welcome feedback and take any and all suggestions seriously. I have mature veteran MMO officers that I am honored to have at my disposal. They will direct you to me if they are unable to help you. Just don’t ask me to change diapers.”

How serious do you play and/or run the guild?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: Over the years our gaming has taken a backseat to our lives. Don’t get me wrong, I love gaming to this day and I’m 34 years old. But you realize whats really important in life and I can tell you its not any game on the market. We are casual. That’s as plain as I can put it. We want new members to enjoy a relaxed environment. We are not a serious in your face raiding guild. We want to enjoy the game as intended. We don’t want to rush to end-game.

Do you have ranks or a certain hierarchy in your guild?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: Currently, there is myself as guild leader and 3 officers. I have 2 advisers to the guild as well. Together, we make up a council of sorts. I have played with these fantastic people for years. They help make what we have here a reality. These are guys that I fully trust. Veteran MMO players that know their stuff. Members on the other hand are not silenced. Every member has a voice and it will never fall on deaf ears. Members will have opportunities to move up in rank when one becomes available and will have a chance to apply to these positions on our website.

Why did you choose the Republic?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “To quote a post I made a few months ago on the forums I think I said something about being the choice of death and destruction or love of all things, It was a pretty simple choice,we chose Republic lol”

Why do you run a guild?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “It was an easy decision. The core guys I play with are without a doubt the best guys I could have. Mature,fun,open-minded. I mean without them i would not do this. They have been supportive and attentive and gone beyond what I would expect from them over the years. And with the amount I bug them with informational texts and messages, phone calls and e-mails? The fact that they have stuck around is amazing (laughs).

How do you approach Raid Planning?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “Although we have no plans yet for raiding, we do plan to raid. Its not high on our priority list as of yet but later it will be.We are not hardcore in your face raiders anymore but do not mistake, we will absolutely see end-game content.

Are you always open for new recruits or do you want to keep a certain guild size?
Lead Officer Miahmite: “We do not have a member cap written in stone because we do not expect every applicant to be a perfect fit for Krayt. Not implementing a cap allows us to keep an open mind, giving Krayt the opportunity to constantly grow and not miss out on a potential future officer. However, in the interest of keeping members close and minimizing problems, we feel that a reasonably sized guild will be a healthier guild. Over-sized guilds lose their structure quickly, often have many internal conflicts, are less personal, and can end up divided. Since Krayt is like a family interested in helping each other constantly, we will make every effort to stay an appropriate size.”

Age Requirement?
Lead Officer Miahmite: “Krayt is looking for applicants who are 18 years of age or older. Keep in mind that our guild structure currently consists of players age 30+, so we expect the maturity level of other members to be close in comparison. In addition, conversations that sometimes occur amongst 30+ year old adults, may not always be suitable for players under 18.””

Guild size?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: ” Currently the guild is small in size. Our member count is low because our focus has been on getting ourselves more established for swtor before it releases. Our guild website just went live on the 28Th of June so now we can focus our attention to recruitment.”

What makes your guild stand out from everyone else? What makes your guild unique?
Lead Officer Miahmite: “Krayt consists of a close band of friends that have stuck together through thick and thin, both in game and in real life. Although it is common for us to joke with each other, make no mistake that there is a very high level of respect amongst us. Krayt’s guild leader and its officers are quite good at reading people and quickly confronting and dealing with potential issues both in and out of game. What this means is that we let nothing get in the way of a great gaming experience comprised of fun, respect, friendship and enjoyment. The unique part of this is that although we value everyone’s enjoyment in game, we also realize the importance of what really matters. Guild member health and happiness in real life far supersedes any RAID event or guild meeting. We do not judge, penalize or otherwise treat members unreasonably if they need to miss a RAID here or there because of real life events. Past experiences with other guilds where members are pressured to RAID or even just be on-line every single day has helped to shape our guild to be the exact opposite. This creates a personal bond between members and encourages helping each other. This is what makes Krayt stand out from others and what will make us one of the strongest and most respected guilds in SWTOR.

How do you spend your time until release? Do you know each other in real life or do you spend a lot of time on forums?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: ” As of right now we spend a lot of time waiting. SWTOR is in the final stages and we are just anxious to get in and play. We all spend a lot of time on the forums of swtor and our own website. I have been gaming with my Lead Officer since 2003. We are best friends and live minutes from each other. My other 3 Officers I know personally as well, I actually work with all of them. We are all close and are able to share information fast without delays. I truly think that helps us set ourselves apart from other guilds.

What Other Games are you currently playing as a guild?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: ” None currently as a guild, mainly offline games if anything. Mass Effect 1/2 has nice replay value and a few of us have finished one or two playthroughs of Dragon Age 2.

If somebody is interested now how and where can they apply for membership?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: As i said before, our website is now live and we are really excited about that! You can sign up there and fill out an application. www.krayt.guildportal.com or you can apply on the swtor guild site at http://www.swtor.com/guilds/56582/krayt

One last question, if there was one thing you could ask the Dev’s to include, what would it be?
Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “That’s a good question. I think without a doubt it would be player/guild housing. There is no better feeling then at the end of a long gaming session like coming “home” to a place in game of your own showing off items/trophy’s you have collected in your travels. Definitely something the Dev’s at Bioware would have great feedback for doing.””””

Guild Leader Shadowreborn: “As a final note, if you don’t mind. I just want to thank the readers on this site. If you made it this far you are the type of person were looking for. MMO’s are our passion and I truly think community comes before the game. Without you, we would be 6 guys making fun of each other on vent. People like the readers of sites like this make us what we have become, a great community of great players with a love of great MMO’s. Thank you to the developer and writers of swtorstrategies as well for giving us an opportunity to make our voices heard. We are truly honored to be here.
