SWTOR: changes to Daily Missions in 5.6 and 5.6.1

Eric Musco just updated the community on some changes to daily missions in game update 5.6 and 5.6.1 Hey folks, Ok, let’s talk about what changed in 5.6 and what is changing in 5.6.1 since they are tied together. 5.6 – In this Game Update we removed the Galactic Command interface from the game along with changing Group Finder to Activity Finder. As a part of this change some Missions were removed from the game as they were explicitly tied into either Galactic Command or Group Finder respectively. This is why the Daily Mission to send you to the those areas is no longer there. The weekly is intended to be the “wrapper” Mission for all of the dailies in that area, which is a change we made coming off of the “bugged” CXP values previously. This was a part of the steps we were taking to re-balance CXP across…

Battlefront 2 Microtransactions Are Gone – For Now

Players may have won the spat with EA over microtransactions in Battlefront II, but it’s not over. EA and DICE announced they would temporarily turn off the feature and many players rejoiced, counting this one a victory. However, the announcement made it very clear that loot boxes would be returning at some point in the future. “The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game,” said the statement. “We’ll share more details as we work through this.” So, this brings forth a couple of questions: How could they bring this back in a way that won’t create outrage? How will they recover from the death of microtransactions? EA stated in an SEC filing that, “this change is not expected to have a material impact on EA’s fiscal year 2018 financial guidance,” but it doesn’t seem to make a…

Star Wars Video Game Faces Gambling Charges

By now, you know all about the drama of EA’s Battlfront II after they announced the loot box system that would come with the game. This meant that in addition to the $60-80 you would pay for the base game, you could also spend more money on digital “boxes” that have a chance of giving you random benefits. You don’t know what’s in these boxes, it could be a dud like a random emote for your character. However, the boxes do have a chance of giving you something really great. This means the temptation to continue buying boxes until you get the goodies you want is very high. Even if you don’t get a dud, you may still be tempted to continue buying more boxes and continue getting more goodies to help you level up. You can get abilities to make you stronger, such as 100 percent invisibility flight on Boba Fett….

Petition to Revoke EA’s Star Wars License

We all know how upset players have been with EA over the controversial launches of both Star Wars Battlefront I and II. When we all thought Battlefront II was going to be better, the redeeming game even, they threw a curveball and added loot crates. There was such an uproar over that, they actually had to suspend the idea (at least for now). For many Star Wars gamer fans, this was the last straw. EA has the rights to Star Wars games but it would seem they keep fumbling the ball with one mistake after another and the fans are the ones suffering. That’s why there is now a petition asking Lucasfilm to revoke EA’s license for making Star Wars games. Right now, it’s an exclusive license which means no other companies can make Star Wars games. So far, over 60,000 people have signed the petition and it’s still climbing. What…

The Collapse Of Visceral’s Ambitious Star Wars Game

By now, you probably have already heard that the anticipated game was canceled. It seemed like a winner, a Star Wars take on Uncharted, published by Electronic Arts and developed by the longrunning studio Visceral Games. However, we know how it goes in the land of video games and it’s not unusual for one to get the chopping block, even when it seems it will be a hit. On October 17, 2017, employees of Visceral were told the company would be closing. This meant their ambitious Star Wars game would also get the axe. The project was called Ragtag. It was meant to be EA’s entry into the action-adventure market—a linear Star Wars story set between the episode IV and V movies that would compete with the likes of Uncharted and Tomb Raider. It was lead up by Amy Hennig, iconic writer, and director who is known for her work on the Uncharted games. The team at Visceral worked hard creating…

EA is investigating the latency issue in Star Wars: Battelfront 2

If you have been playing Star Wars: Battlefront 2 lately, you might have been experiencing lag lately. If you haven’t, below is a video of what I am talking about. DICE and EA are not to eager to speak out though. A one sentence response is not normal for a game that just went live.  As one player responded: “The lag is caused by gamers shutting the door to hard as they quit playing for good, the vacuum as it closes Sucks you back a few seconds and will be fixed when the last few remaining players have gone.” A bit hard if you ask me, as the game is not half as bad as people like it to be. Anyways, here is the news: Hello, We are aware of the issues that lead players to experience latencies on the game servers. We are currently investigating and will update you as…

It’s absolutely beautiful and the details are highlighted in this high-quality video. If you’re playing Battlefront 2, or still thinking about playing it, this video alone might be enough to encourage you to do Clone Wars. The players asked and on this front, EA listened. Some of you may remember the lengthen Reddit thread asking EA for Clone Wars in Battlefront II. You asked and EA granted. Star Wars The Clone Wars adds a plethora of new planets to the universe. We already know the game is a multi-era mashup, so it’s great to see that The Clone Wars was added, and that it looks…

EA Is Now Ironically Stuck With $60 ‘Battlefront 2’ And No Good Way To Re-Monetize It

forbes.com had an interesting article the other day, regarding how EA now is “stuck” with a game they can’t monetize as they want to. Here’s a summary of some of the points: Battlefront got backlash for having a $50 season pass and launching with barebones content. In Star Wars Battlefront 2 they changed the system and promised free DLC while using microtransactions and loot-boxes to monetize the game. Thanks to the backlash, they have removed microtransactions . . . but they’ve stated that they’re planning on reinstating them. If they do bring back microtransactions tied to progression then they will still face backlash. If they bring back lootboxes with only cosmetic items they’ll still draw ire. They’ve already enticed responses from multiple governments on the issues of lootboxes. That leaves them with really only one path forwards that won’t bring back a ton of backlash: Implementing an online store with microtransactions…

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 All Cutscenes Full Movie 2017

If you put all the cutscenes from Star Wars Battlefront II together in succession, you’d have a Star Wars movie to watch. Most players already know this, even if they don’t think about it while they are playing. Those of us who enjoy games for their story probably pay more attention to things like the cut scenes and the story that they provide. While some players just like to skip through the cutscenes as fast as possible and get back to the action, there are many who find this one of the best parts of the game. Whatever camp you’re in, it’s now possible to see all the cutscenes from Battlefront II in one place. Now, you can see the full movie of all the cutscenes put together in one video. Take some time to pop some popcorn or gather your favorite snacks, consider inviting some Star Wars loving friends…

A Gem of a Star Wars Game – Jedi Starfighter

If you never had the chance to play the game, or if you’re just looking for some nostalgic fun, check out this Jedi Starfighter Retro Review from Joe, The Alternative Gamer. He says everything I would say about this game (and likely better). I was a big fan back in the day and honestly, I’d love to go back and play it again for old time’s sake.  It’s an all-around great game and a lot of fun to play. Some have called it “Rogue Squadron Lite” which is a fair assessment, really, but it’s still fun in its own right. The story itself is simple, but good enough to keep you interested. It doesn’t take away from the gameplay, but isn’t the best story around in terms of Star Wars games. That’s okay because Starfighter isn’t about that anyway. It’s about flying and fighting (duh). It’s really one of my favorite games…

Hearts of Kyber – A Star Wars Fan-Film

You know how we love our fan films here! Honestly, it’s what holds me over in between official Star Wars movies. Some are of such great quality, you’d think they were professionally done, but even the ones that are not can still be fun to watch. I have seen pretty much every Star Wars fan film I can find and I always walk away pleased. That said, we try to bring you only the good ones here, since I know not everyone is as easily amused by this as I am. With that said, here’s another good one that’s definitely worth your time. It’s under 9 minutes long, so you can watch it on a quick break between playing Hearts online, or to unwind at the end of the day. It’s not going to take your entire evening, but it will give you some temporary entertainment. The acting is good,…

Old School vs. Latest Gaming Technology

If you were born in the 1970’s you must remember family time hunched over a huge console playing TV games until the birds came out. TV games made its appearance in 1972 but only wowed gamers in 1975 with the release of Atari’s Pong game. Electronic entertainment has seen a widespread mass effect. People of all ages and creeds buy into the mass market of gaming purely for the kind of entertainment it affords players with. It’s a whooping serving of Miracle Whip on a burger, steadily focused on a pure outcome, which is pure enjoyment. This breakthrough in technology kicked off a trend that very few could have anticipated, and even today, retro tech is hot news. Let’s look at how electronic entertainment has evolved over the decades. Military Invention In the 1960’s the US government wanted a device that would enhance the reflexes of military personnel and developed…

Mario Bros – An arcade style game that keeps evolving

How Mario Bros All Began Everyone has heard of the Italian plumber who was created by a Japanese artist.  This little man in red with a moustache was featured in more than 100 video games. The story of this popular plumber begins in the 1980s. The president of Nintendo at the time, Hiroshi Yamauchi commissioned an artist to create a game for Nintendo.  The artist’s name was Miyamoto.  He was not a programmer, but was able to develop a storyline before the workings of the game were designed, and had a good knowledge of technology and how the current trends would affect his creation.  The game was Donkey Kong which was a love story between a man, his girlfriend and a gorilla.  The main character was Jump Man and he could climb and jump ladders, move left or right and jump over obstacles and between platforms.  This game was unlike…

More Info on Master’s Datacron (Instant 70 boost)

BioWare just posted a new blog updating the players on  how the Master’s Datacron will work in Game Update 5.6. Starting with ’A Traitor Among the Chiss’ (Game Update 5.6) on November 28th, there will be a new item introduced to the Cartel Market called the Master’s Datacron. This item will allow you to take any non-maximum level (70) character on your account and immediately move them up to maximum level. One unique thing about this boost is that it doesn’t progress your character’s story at all, meaning this is a great way to play through the classic Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ storylines without worrying about your character level! The Master’s Datacron also comes with the Eternal Commander Equipment bundle. Once you have boosted to max level and chosen your character’s Discipline (more on this below), you can use the equipment bundle to have a full set of level 70 gear…

The Yavin Warzone is delayed until gamme update 5.6.1. Here is the update: Hey folks, Quick update on Game Update 5.6. Star Wars: The Last Jedi “Awake”

Luke Skywalker boards the Millennium Falcone, alone. His old friends, and even his old life are gone. It’s a new time, a new season, and possibly time for a new Jedi. Can you imagine what it must be like for him to enter his own ship once again? After all that time, what must it be like to be inside the Millennium Falcon again? That idea is explored in this trailer for the new film. Darkness rises… and light to meet it. See the trailer here if you haven’t already. It also brings up an interesting question about the actor who plays Luke Skywalker though. What was it like for Mark Hammil to walk back into that ship after all these years? It must have really brought back some of the same memories his character would have had. “I’m telling you, I didn’t expect to have the reaction I had,”…

How Powerful Was Revan Really?

Revan has long been one of my favorite characters from Star Wars. This powerful, complex character just has so much backstory, so much growth, and had such a huge impact in so many important aspects of Star Wars, I find it hard not to like him. But even if you’re not a fangirl like me, you probably still find it hard not to respect Revan when you learn all about him. It’s not just that he has an interesting story, or that he had the unique history of playing both sides – as a Jedi and as Sith – but also because he was so incredibly powerful. “Revan had many Masters, Zhar, Dorak, Master Kae before Kae left for the Wars. Toward the end of his training, he sought out many to learn techniques. It is said that he returned to his first Master at the end of his training,…
