Star Wars Battlefront Devs Update Outer Rim but Quiet on Bespin DLC

So now that Outer Rim is here, the devs at Star Wars Battlefront are already teasing more new content. We know there are additional private match changes coming in the future but we’re not hearing much of anything (or anything at all) about the next upcoming DLC: Bespin. Bespin is set to release this summer sometime and Design & Trend via DICE lead designer Dennis Brännvall said a few words about upcoming content but none of them were about Bespin. Design & Trend reported on these updates from the devs recently: Since many gamers love playing “Star Wars Battlefront” with their friends, private matches are always a hot topic. In fact, we posted an article earlier this week that mentioned the possibility of two-person skirmishes and battles in the new Outer Rim DLC maps and modes. Since then, however, there have been a couple more developments to share. Namely, it appears that Brännvall’s…

Does ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’s’ Outer Rim Bring the End Game?

Star Wars: Battelfront:  Outer Rim is here and it’s time we start seeing reviews and opinions about the additional downloadable content so you can decide for yourself if you’re interested in playing it. Or maybe you’re already playing and you just want to see what others have to say about it. Well, we already know that the Outer Rim has increased the level cap to 60. What else do we know about it? Todd Kenreck, contributor to Forbes.com says it brings a much need end game. His summary: “The maps are richly detailed, the weapons fill some key gaps and the new heroes are a massive surprise. I give Star Wars: Battlefront’s Outer Rim an 8 out 10.” That’s a pretty good rating. So what are some reasons he likes the new content so much? Well, we’re hearing some of the same things from others who are playing. Extraction as a…

First Battlefront DLC Lands, Plenty More to Look Forward To

Star Wars: Battlefront’s eagerly awaited first DLC, Outer Rim, has landed earlier this month, for those who have Season Pass, and indeed, it hit the nail right on the head: it expanded a universe often derided for its shallowness, it added new game modes and overall, it addressed one of the most easily identifiable shortcomings of the original title. Obviously, there’s still plenty of room for improvement depth-wise in the game, but Outer Rim does represent a massive step in the right direction. How massive? The DLC is about 8 GB big, so for those on slower connections, it may cause a few headaches, but it is a must. It expands the game world and it brings so many new goodies, it completely revamps the title. Above and beyond all that though, you will need it because none of the future DLCs already in the works apparently, will work without…

Star Wars: Battlefront VR Game a Launch Title for PS VR?

Sony made the announcement regarding the price of their PlayStation VR in early March, after their main competitors had made their moves in this respect. What has been clear from the get-go is the fact that Sony are looking to dominate the VR market from the beginning. The price of PlayStation VR is extremely competitive and there will apparently be plenty of content available for it right from its launch. One of the titles that will be made available to players is apparently the Star Wars: Battlefront VR experience, which will indeed be a playable game, and which fans will be able to play in October. According to Sony’s John Koller, the Battlefront VR experience will be very “special” as it will be looking to accomplish nothing less than to transport players right into the midst of the Star Wars universe. According to Koller, the game might just become a…

Star Wars Fans Want to Remake Canceled Battlefront III

We know how much some fans want to see Star Wars: Battlefront III. Some want it so bad, in fact, that they want to remake it themselves. The controversial and ill-fated shooter was in development with Free Radical before it was cancelled and many fans were upset by the news. It’s been almost a year since then but Eurogamer has some info that might indicate a reboot. “Now, fans of Free Radical’s effort at Russia-based Frontwire Studios are attempting to remake this version of Battlefront, retitled Galaxy in Turmoil. The project is live now on ModDB. The small developer is also asking via Reddit for anyone else with coding experience to get involved.” As you probably already know, a lot of the gameplay from Battlefront III (or what it would have been) has been leaked online. We are able to see a lot of info about the levels, capabilities and even…

Star Wars: Battlefront Outer Rim Expansion Arrives Today!

It is safe to say that after years of building up hype, Star Wars: Battlefront was something of a disappointment depth-wise when it was finally launched, even as it blew the expectations out of the water technically and visually. One of the strengths of the game was to depict actual movie locations in great detail, making one feel like he/she was actually involved in the Star Wars canon. That strength is apparently what the franchise is banking on going forth, as it seeks to address its oft-decried lack of depth. Outer Rim, the first expansion to the game, will look to attack the problem from several angles. It will introduce players to locations like the palace of Jabba the Hutt, and it will also introduce no fewer than five new weapons/cards as well as a new game-mode called Extraction, which will see one of the teams protect and escort cargo…

Star Wars: Battlefront Hits VR With PlayStation

With the VR wars in full swing, Sony fell somewhat behind as far as spectacular and hype-filled announcements were concerned at least, but they were apparently only squaring off to release this one: it looks like there will be a Star Wars Battlefront experience coming to Sony’s PlayStation VR as a fruit of the partnership between EA and Sony and as one of the 50 games which will be available for the VR device come its October 2016 release. The announcement was made at Sony’s GDC presentation which focused on the VR headset. Now then, as the expression “Star Wars battlefront experience” clues us in, it’s not an actual game we’re looking at, rather something described as “a cinematic gaming experience” by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Andrew House. House also said that there would be no shortage of content for the upcoming VR platform, given how some 230 developers are already…

Outer Rim DLC Price and Release Date

EA and DICE have finally confirmed some specific Star Wars Battlefront DLC release details and we know that it will cost $15 ($14.99 US) and that it will be available on March 22nd for Season Pass holders and on April 5th for everyone else. So there are the big questions out of the way. You can see it up for sale on Gamestop with the dates and pricing info now available. Mat Everett did say on Twitter that the company cannot confirm that the Gamestop release date is accurate. This is common practice for game developers but Gamestop has been historically accurate with their launch dates since they get this info from the companies themselves. So we’ll just say it’s as close to official as you can get before actually being official right now. When they announced the Season Pass, EA and DICE also promised new weapons, vehicles, Star Cards for…

DICE Says Free Patch Coming before Outer Rim DLC

Mat Everett of DICE announced on Twitter that the March free content update will release before the Outer Rim DLC. While Season Pass holders will get early access to Outer Rim, it’s still uncertain if this free update will come before the early access or before anyone at all sees the Outer Rim. This is good news for many players, as some speculated there would be no new free content with the DLC dropping in the same month. So that’s good news to see there will be new content all around. @SWBFNewsFR Our March free content update will release before the Outer Rim DLC. — Mat Everett (@sledgehammer70) February 23, 2016 There has also been some chatter from Dennis Brännvall, lead designer at DICE, about new heroes and other details from the game and the DLCs. He also confirmed that you will be able to use the new heroes on the…

Outer Rim Set to Land This Month

According to many, DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront failed to live up to some of the pre-launch hype and expectations, primarily on account of a rather glaring lack of depth. Fortunately, that problem is one that can be righted on the go and that’s exactly what the developer is looking to accomplish by adding no fewer than three DLCs this year and another one in 2017. The first such DLC is scheduled for March, and given how there will apparently be a free update preceding it, we’re looking at a wealth of new content coming online this month, content which is obviously much-anticipated and much-needed too at this point. The March Battlefront update is set to deliver the usual selection of bug-fixes and tweaks, along with a new Endor map aimed at big game modes as well as a survival map for Tatooine. Exactly what the DLC will bring to the…

Actor Who Plays Finn wants a Battlefront Story Mode

So the actor who plays Finn in the new Star Wars film, John Boyega, wants to see a Star Wars Battlefront story mode. I cannot say that I disagree with that at all actually. As the lead actor tells EA, it gives a more enjoyable way to learn controls”. Again, we have to agree. Boyega says how he has been a fan of the series for years (why are we not surprised) but he definitely makes a valid point into why Electronic Arts should have added a story mode. It’s safe to say that many people who play (or those who are thinking about picking up the game) could benefit from a story mode. Sometimes you just feel like playing single player and again, it’s a good way to give them a feel for the game when just getting started. There would be several benefits to this type of game…

Star Wars: Battlefront – New Easter Egg Found In Twilight On Hoth Map

There’s an Easter Egg in the new map for Star Wars: Battlefront, Twilight on Hoth. The new map was added with the February update and it gives some hints that EA might have listened to the fans and decided to add tauntauns to the game. Unlike other Easter eggs found in the game, this one is a full size image, which hints that it might mean it’s coming in the game as a mount. It’s probably one of the most asked for items in the game. It’s a frozen, full size render of a Tautaun and one user got this on video so if you haven’t seen it yourself yet, here you go. What do you think? Could it be a sign of things to come? Is it just a little novelty for players who pay close attention while they’re roaming the frigid lands of Hoth?

Players Salute Latest Star Wars Battlefront Update… Or Not

Players are not happy with the latest update to Star Wars Battlefront and they are letting DICE know about it. One sarcastic post on Reddit highlights  the issues well, with dry humor and snark, but this is not the only shout-out to DICE that this update blows. Some of the major complaints: players hate the new map nerfs and buffs don’t make sense DICE ignored many player requests/ report bugs still issues with the music/sound controls and the list goes on While it’s common for a new game to have issues and for any game to experience problems after an update, big or small, the real issue the community seems to have with DICE is the lack of communication and the fact that it seems they are not listening to their audience at all. When you ask players to spend such a large amount of money on a game, then…

New Star Wars: Battlefront Update Reportedly Underway Bringing Weapon and Vehicle Buffs

A living-breathing world like that of Star Wars: Battlefront is in continuous need of updating and tweaking, and the community is indeed very demanding in this respect. The January patch brought many improvements, tweaking various weapons and even characters, looking to smooth out the balance, and while most of these tweaks were welcome indeed, some of them ended up generating unwanted side-effects. The Homing Shot and the Bowcaster for instance got seriously nerfed, so much so in fact that according to the community, the two said weapons have become all but useless. There was naturally a lot of upheaval tied to these botched tweaks, but help is apparently already underway. According to Battlefront Community Manager Sledgehammer70, the next update will target the above said two weapons, and they will be restored to what they should indeed be. The Community Manager also admitted that the tweaks in the works for the…

Has Star Wars Battlefront Improved Since Launch?

So as you know, we’ve been supporters of Star Wars Battlefront since the start but not everyone has loved it as much. There were some who believed the game fell short, or simply wasn’t worth the asking price tag. Then there are some gamers who always prefer to wait on a game, rather than jumping all in from the start. Whatever camp you fall in, it’s safe to say the game has changed and improved over the past two months. Tech Times has a post about how the game is “finally worth playing” and while we agree on some points, we’re just not on the same page with others. For starters, we’ve been behind the game from the get go so I wouldn’t say it’s only now become “worth playing”. They start off by saying that when the game first launched, it was “a mess”. Well, many games are in…

Star Wars Battlefront: 11 Mistakes You Don’t Want to Make

If you’re playing Star Wars Battlefront, GottaBe Mobile has some mistakes they say you should avoid. Who has ever gotten into a new game and after playing for awhile, realized things you wish you had known early on? It’s just one of the things that comes with starting a brand new game early. One reason a lot of gamers enjoy playing the beta of a game is that they get some of these mistakes out of the way early. Of course, things can still change from beta to launch game mode so it’s not a foolproof method. All of that said, it can be fun sometimes to look at the advice and tips lists of other people, whether you’re new to the game or have been playing since the beginning and that is exactly what we’re going to do here with this post on Battlefront. So here are some of…

Free DLC Packs that Star Wars Battlefront Needs

Not everyone is fully enamored with Star Wars Battlefront. Others have jumped onto the Battlefront bandwagon but they have a few requests they would like to see coming in future DLC packs. Like, why can’t we play as Yoda? EA has been forced to give us more content and for the most part, it’s been good. Fans have been eating it up and EA and DICE will need to work hard to keep up with this growing demand for content from existing as well as new players. What Culture explores this topic and lists seven free DLC packs the game needs. Here are a few they have on the list: New villains Prequel maps Weapon and vehicle upgrades New heroes They do more than just list the suggestions; they also go into depth about why each one should be there. I have to agree, this is a good list of…

Making Star Wars: Battlefront Authentic

Most Star Wars fans will agree that the only thing better than watching Star Wars would be to actually be there yourself. This is why Star Wars games have tried for decades to create as much of a real, immersive experience as possible. They want you to feel like you’re really there. They want you to experience Star Wars. Star Wars: Battlefront is the most recent game to attempt to take us to a galaxy far, far away. One of my favorite gaming/tech sites, Gamasutra tells us about how they captured the iconic look and sound of Star Wars in the game: Released just a month before The Force Awakens made its theatrical debut, Battlefront tasked EA DICE with bringing Star Wars to life like never before. The challenge was clear: capture the essence of Lucas’ revered original trilogy and rekindle the romance after the bitter break-up that were the prequels. The consensus…

EA’s ‘Battlefront’ Burden: We Can’t Violate the ‘Star Wars’ Canon

As far as Star Wars Battlefront is concerned, all must remain in the past. EA is bound by the canon and they can’t violate this, placing obvious restrictions on what they can do with story and game design elements. This means, despite the popular of the new heroes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there will be no plans to add Rey or Finn to future Battlefront expansion packs. It’s not that EA is against the new heroes. In fact, there’s a pretty obvious and logical reason for it. “Battlefront” is based on the science-fiction franchise’s original trilogy released between 1977 and 1983. “The Force Awakens” is set about 30 years after “Return of the Jedi.” It may sound obvious to some fans but then again, in a video game reality, we often like to think that we can change things as we choose and have fun with it. That’s true……
