An Absolutely AMAZING SWTOR Christmas Present!

If you wanted something really awesome for Christmas, this would have made a killer present! How about the idea of having an action figure/ model of your own SWTOR character? As you can see, that is a 3D printed version of this person’s character that was given as a surprise gift. After Redditors begged to know where and how this was done, the poster, Dentface, provided a little more info about it. “Details are scare, since it was a surprise gift. All they told me was it was 3D printed then hand-painted.” He then added later, “Update: They contacted people at 3D hubs, who referred some local people who hand-painted and printed the figure.” If you really want one of these for yourself, you can gather up some reference shots of your character from different angles and then look up companies near you (or anywhere if they ship to you) and…

SWTOR in Retrospect: 4 Years of Struggle

I remember that initial launch date of SWTOR very vividly. Here at the site, we had been preparing for December 20, 2011 for quite some time. I was also anticipating the birth of a child and at that point, we were wondering which would come first – my baby or SWTOR. Turns out SWTOR launched just two days before my little one was born and I was back home and ready to enjoy some gaming in between feedings along with everyone else who had been anxiously awaiting the big premiere. Any of you who were around four years ago in the beginning will remember that SWTOR had a rocky start. There were many problems at launch and quite a few issues that had to be resolved to get us to where we are now. Here, our pal Vulkk has written an excellent two-part series of memories of SWTOR for the…

Petition for Group Content in SWTOR

Many fans of SWTOR have expressed their interest in seeing Bioware give us more group content. Some want to see it so badly, they’ve started a petition to Bioware to add more new group content to the game. While some fans argue that Bioware has been listening on the forums and even on Reddit, always staying in tune with what the players want, so a petition isn’t really needed, it still appears the petition was done with respect toward Bioware and not at all bashing them. A the time of this post, it has 911 supporters. It reads as follows: BioWare Austin, First and foremost, we are here to say this because we LOVE Star Wars: The Old Republic. You need to recognize this is coming from a good place. We want to tell you that enough is enough. We want to see change. We want to work towards transparency…

Havok Trooper Cosplay by LazyAardvark

You know how we love to bring you fan-created stuff and cosplay. (I live for reporting on these things!) So here’s another we adore. A SWTOR fan named LazyAardvark posted a great Havok Trooper cosplay that we really wanted to share with you. He says he’s been working on it for a few months and we can definitely see why. This armor is so realistic, it looks like it should be on the set of a movie. One thing we really liked was the worn, battled look it has. LazyAardvark explains how this was achieved: “The battleworn look was done with pastel chalk and a magic wash which comprised of acryllic paint, floor polish, and water, i also did some low lighting in the recesses to make the details pop out.” We think This is pretty awesome! It’s amazing to see what serious fans can and do come up with….

RIP Dark Edge Gaming: SWTOR Loses One of Its Own

When you’ve spent a lot of time in a game, and within a community, you start to think of these people as your friends. Some of them even as family. Although you may not have ever met in person, the bonds you from with these online friends is real. Some, however, do go on to meet in person. Romances have budded from online gaming, and lifelong friendships have been formed. This is why it is always so sad when we lose one of our own. It’s is with a heavy heart that we write today about the death of Joe Keyser, known by many in the SWTOR community as Dark Edge Gaming. His quick wit and passion for the game are things that will be greatly missed. Iamsechari has a little write-up here: I am very saddened to have heard about the loss of Joe Keyser, known to many in…

Companion Change Feedback | 11.19.2015, 10:13 AM Hey folks, Following the Companion changes we made Tuesday in 4.0.2, we want to gather your feedback on your gameplay experiences. We hope by this point you have had some time to jump in and get your hands on the changes yourselves. First, before we get into the feedback we are looking for, let’s talk a bit about our specific design goals related to Companions: Leveling Content – Challenge Level: Low. To complete this content, a player should have a basic understanding of game mechanics and have level-appropriate gear. Their companion’s role shouldn’t matter. KotFE Chapters – Challenge Level: Low. Like leveling content, a player should have a basic understanding of game mechanics and have…

Putting a Freeze on Your SWTOR Account

What if you had an emergency and you knew you would not be able to play your SWTOR account for an extended period of time but you’d already paid for your subscription? That is exactly what happened to one player and Bioware stepped up to offer a solution. A user who goes by the name Dragoon- on Reddit tells the story of how his father passed away in October and knowing he needed time to deal with his grief and also help his mother and family, he called Bioware to see what they could do for it. He shared his tip-of-the-hat story for all to see: My dad died in the evening of the 20th Oct.. I played less than 2 hours KoftFE before I got the call. Since then I haven’t played Swtor anymore, mainly because I have to take care of my mom, do tons of paperwork and file it…

SWTOR concerns regarding accessing future Companions

Eric Musco posted some answers to some of the growing player concerns on companion recruitment. These 4 threads all ask the same questions, can we get answers? | 11.11.2015, 09:53 PM I talked to Matt about Alliance, Companions, and your questions specifically related to accessing future Companions. Between this thread and the ones linked in the OP, I think there are two main questions you are looking to have addressed. Will I need to complete currently available alert Missions to unlock future alert Missions? As of right now, the answer to this is yes. Inside of each Alliance Companion type (Military, Underworld, etc), the Companion recruitment alerts are very much looked at like a Mission chain. Generally, you must complete one alert Mission before you will receive the next. Note that you only need to complete the Mission itself, not necessarily recruit any Companion associated with it. There may be exceptions to…

SWTOR 4.0 Class Changes: Inquisitor and Consular

In the following 2 videos you can see and hear the details about the recent changes Bioware announced today for the Sith Inquisitor and Jedi Consular Classes in Knights of the Fallen Empire, the next Digital Expansion of SWTOR. Narrated and recorded by Vulkk. In a nutshell, players receive 1 new ability at lvl 61, reshuffle of active and passive abilities gained through leveling with no change of their effects (for now) and 3 new Utilities, 1 for each tier. Bioware’s short message and reasoning for these changes: With 4.0, we wanted to give Assassins and Shadows a better way to stealthily approach or return to their enemy target, and their new ability was specifically designed to do just that. For Sorcerers and Sages, we wanted to give them an additional way to escape peril, so we made Phase Walk available to them. All of the following notes are subject to…

Drew Karpyshyn Returns to Star Wars: The Old Republic!

For those who don’t know, I spent over a decade with BioWare working on many award winning and fan-beloved games like Mass Effect 1&2, Knights of the Old Republic and the Star Wars: The Old Republic Online MMO. A few years ago I left BioWare to focus on my Chaos Born novels, but now that the trilogy is finished, I’ve decided to come back into the…

In the following 2 videos you can see and hear the details about the recent changes Bioware announced today for the Bounty Hunter and Trooper Classes in Knights of the Fallen Empire, the next Digital Expansion of SWTOR. Narrated and recorded by Vulkk. In a nutshell, players receive 1 new ability at lvl 61, reshuffle of active and passive abilities gained through leveling with no change of their effects (for now) and 3 new Utilities, 1 for each tier. Bioware’s short message and reasoning for these changes: Whether you prefer bullets, missiles, or just plain fire, Bounty Hunters and Troopers have something for you! In Game Update 4.0, we wanted to give all Powertechs/Vanguards a quick way to jump into the thick of combat or instantly catch back up to a fleeing target. To accomplish this, we made Jet Charge/Storm baseline for all Powertechs/Vanguards. Getting up in the enemy’s face isn’t something…

SWTOR 4.0 Imperial Agent and Smuggler Changes (Video Overview)

In a nutshell, players receive 1 new ability at lvl 61, reshuffle of active and passive abilities gained through leveling with no change of their effects (for now) and 3 new Utilities, 1 for each tier. Bioware’s short message and reasoning for these changes: In Game Update 4.0, we wanted to increase the mobility of these formidable combatants in order to allow them to realize their full potential on the battle field, and to make them more difficult to kite. The new Knight/Warrior ability – Blade Blitz/Mad Dash – emphasizes this design intention, and Knight/Warrior players will find that they have an easier time staying on target…

Do You Save Your Game Boxes?

A player posted this on Imgur and got me thinking about something: Do you still have your original SWTOR case? I very clearly remember the countdown for the game. Some of you will know already that we spent years here writing about SWTOR even before the launch so it was a very exciting time to finally have the game coming out. Looking back on that game box image makes me think of those early days and the anticipation, combined with our excitement to finally be playing the game. It also brings up some thoughts about game boxes in general. The topic of SWTOR game cases/boxes reminds me of a conversation I was having with a good friend recently. We were reminiscing on how we always saved our video game boxes back in the day. I had Collector’s Editions of everything I played when it was offered and I often kept the boxes…

SWTOR and Windows 10

Most of us know that the new Windows 10 upgrade is now available and many are anxious to see what it’s like and if it has any problems. Recently, Vulkk from Vulkk.com installed Windows 10 and upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro. Here are the steps he took and why. Step 1: The first part of the upgrade is downloading the ISO and upgrade from inside Windows. He chose to keep all of his preferences, settings, and programs he already had installed. Windows registers each PC by their ID when they either purchase a new computer or download a new version of Windows. So, if you change too much hardware the copy of Windows 10 will become obsolete and you will then lost the product key for the same PC and then you will have to install the 7/8 version again and upgrade. After he downloaded the new version, his LAN…

Improve SWTOR Performance by Installing DirectX 9

Installing the old DirectX 9 on Windows 10 may sound weird at first, but let’s see what the reason is, shall we? It will very likely help Improving a lot your SWTOR Performance and FPS. Windows 10 comes packed with the newest edition of DirectX 12. Our favorite game SWTOR is created and still used only Directx 9. In order for it to display its beauty, the system needs to emulate al the DirectX 9 effects, which may slow it down and result in a poor performance. By installing the DirectX 9 package manually, we stop that process of simulation and allow our PC to use the original files the game is designed for, thus, in theory at least, speeding the process up. This installation wont make SWTOR run smooth and flawlessly, but it will likely boost it at least a bit. I have done this since the game’s launch in 2011 on multiple…

EA’s Fallen Empire Preview with Creative Director Jesse Sky

BioWare goes back to its roots for: Knights of the Fallen Empire What goes into crafting the new expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic – Knights of the Fallen Empire? Creative director Jesse Sky takes things back to the beginning. Back to basics Last year, I decided to re-watch The Empire Strikes Back® and write down everything that shocked the audience back in its original theatrical run. It’s a very long list. That film packs a real emotional punch—it’s full of twists, betrayals and revelations the entire way through. I’ve wanted to tell a Star Wars™ story like that ever since the first time I saw it. When we began conceptualizing Knights of the Fallen Empire, the story…
