Star Wars: The Force Awakens crosses $2 billion worldwide

Well, now they’ve done it! We knew it was coming and the newest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has now officially made $2 billion in the box office worldwide. This makes it only the third film in history to ever hit that number. The other two movies to make more than $2 billion in the box office were Titanic at $2.19 billion and Avatar at $2.79 billion. This is a huge milestone for the film, but not really a surprising one. On Friday, Disney announced The Force Awakens had made $900 million domestically, becoming the only film in history to hit that number. The Star Wars franchise has been and will likely remain incredibly popular for many generations. So while this is a historic moment for Disney, there’s a good chance the next films will break records too. “This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney, and all of us here are…

Will A Legends Fan Favorite Appear on “Star Wars Rebels”?

There is an interesting rumor floating around about “Star Wars Rebels”“. Being that I am a fan of the animated series, I am curious if there is any truth to this rumor. So before we get into it, be warned there might be some spoilers in this post. Avert yourself now if you’re not up to speed on Star Wars Rebels. StarWarsMaking.net has the scoop: “I have heard that in Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels we will be introduced to none other than the original blue guy himself, Grand Admiral Thrawn from Heir to the Empire. From the sound of things, we’re going to see Thrawn as the tactical genius of capital starship warfare he was to Expanded Universe readers in the ’90s. However, this time he will be using his evil brand of genius against the the heroes of the starship Ghost.  The future of Star Wars Rebels will also feature an Ezra…

EA’s ‘Battlefront’ Burden: We Can’t Violate the ‘Star Wars’ Canon

As far as Star Wars Battlefront is concerned, all must remain in the past. EA is bound by the canon and they can’t violate this, placing obvious restrictions on what they can do with story and game design elements. This means, despite the popular of the new heroes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there will be no plans to add Rey or Finn to future Battlefront expansion packs. It’s not that EA is against the new heroes. In fact, there’s a pretty obvious and logical reason for it. “Battlefront” is based on the science-fiction franchise’s original trilogy released between 1977 and 1983. “The Force Awakens” is set about 30 years after “Return of the Jedi.” It may sound obvious to some fans but then again, in a video game reality, we often like to think that we can change things as we choose and have fun with it. That’s true……

Captain Phasma Will Return to the New Star Wars Trilogy

Gwendoline Christie says Captain Phasma is not gone for good when she confirms the character she plays in The Force Awakens will be returning. Christie confirmed on the 2016 SAG Awards red carpet that her character will be returning. In a way, it’s not a huge surprise since it seems odd to think Disney would play up that character so much just to off her in the first film. No, I think we all suspected there would be more of Captain Phasma to come. Still, having it officially confirmed is fun. “I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually,” the actress told People Magazine. From the earliest marketing days for the newest film, Captain Phasma was a hit. The character resonated with so many people. She was intimidating. She was fierce. She was interesting. So many fans were disappointed there wasn’t more of her seen in the…

More Star Wars after the New Trilogy

If you thought all we had to look forward to was the new trilogy, then Star Wars fans can sit back and listen to some very good news: Word in the industry is that we are going to see more Star Wars films after the newest trilogy. Bob Iger told the BBC that plans to continue delivering space opera installments were in place for beyond 2019, when Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX is due to hit cinemas. That’s great news, right? If you’re a Star Wars fan, then I’d say it probably is. Of course some people are skeptical about whether or not these films are going to be good, and whether or not they can keep the franchise going with that many films and it still be successful but if anything can do it, it’s Star Wars. “There are five Star Wars films – four more with Episode VII: The…

You Could Own Luke Skywalker’s Blaster

If you have a lot of cash, that is. While there has been a lot of mystery surrounding Luke Skywalker since the release of the latest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it seems it has increased the popularity of Skywalker memorabilia even more. It’s not a huge surprise then that when the DL-44 Blaster Luke Skywalker used in the 180 film “The Empire Strikes Back” went up for auction, fans are taking note. It’s starting at $200,000 with Nate D. Sanders. Here is the description from the auction listing: Luke Skywalker’s DL-44 Blaster from ”The Empire Strikes Back”‘. This iconic hero gun is the same model used by Han Solo, a design based on the German issue Mauser C96 pistol and custom made by casting the original prop used in the first ”Star Wars”. Gun retains its original flash suppressor and scope, though it does not (and never did) fire,…

TOR TV: Knights of the Fallen Empire Fan Trailer

Here’s another entry for the Build Your Alliance contest by BioWare and Nvidia that we really love. This is a fan trailer for Knights of the Fallen Empire and is just a little over 2 minutes long. If you haven’t seen it yet, we’ve embedded it below and it’s well worth the time. The attention to detail, the story element, all of the fine details are present in this one. It has the immersion element that gamers love and makes you feel like you want to jump in and start playing like NOW. It appeals to Star Wars fans who love being the hero and it pulls you in with your emotions as well as the intrigue. I’ve been looking at tons of these since the contest began but this one definitely stands out among the majority. It’s very well done, nearly professional-level quality. “A recreation of the Force Awakens…

Top 10 Classic Star Wars Battlefront Maps

If you play Star Wars Battlefront, you probably have a favorite map. Most everyone has a favorite map (or two) that they love more than any others. In fact, this seems to be the case in any game of this type. I know I have a shortlist of my favorite TF2 maps and also a shortlist of the ones I hate and try to avoid ever playing on. So WatchMojo took a look at some classic Star Wars Battlfront maps and also asked their viewers to vote on their favorites. They used this poll to create a ranked list and then made this video about the results. So where did your favorite maps stack up? The top five included Hoth, Kashyyk and Naboo City. Also rounding out the top 10 was Kamino and Bespin. Other maps that were voted on: Yavin 4, Felucia, Korriban, Utapau, Vjun, and more. Check out…

Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber and KOTOR – Is There a Link?

If you’ve seen the new film already (and if you haven’t, how are you avoiding the spoilers?!) then you may have even picked up on this already, especially if you were a big KOTOR player/fan. Some are saying there is a possible link between Kylo Ren’s lightsaber in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the old beloved Star Wars video game, Knights of the Old Republic. If this link is true, it could bring things around in terms of Star Wars film canon. Eurogamer.net takes a look at this theory: There’s a believable link between Kylo Ren’s crossguard Lightsaber and, specifically, Knights of the Old Republic 2, although KOTOR1 and Star Wars: The Old Republic have to be included because of their shared timeline and, particularly, main character Revan. The link regards the origins of Kylo Ren’s Lightsaber, and a revelatory paragraph in a “Visual Dictionary” book accompanying the film….

TOR TV: SWTOR: Knights of a Fallen Empire – Rise Fan Made Trailer

Here’s another fan film that was made for the #BuildYourAllianceContest and we think this is pretty good too. The music choice has a very classic Star Wars feel to it and builds that drama and momentum with the increase tempo of the music. When paired with the dramatic imagery, it’s a fantastic 2-minute trailer. If I had never seen SWTOR or KotFE before, I would want to play it after seeing this. I think that definitely means it did it’s job, right? With so many entries into this contest, I can bet it will be very difficult for them to choose a winner. In the meantime, we have some great shot films to check out. Also, if you have a friend you’ve been trying to get into SWTOR or the new expansion, some of these trailers might be just the way to go ahead and win them over to your…

“Kara” A Star Wars Fan Film

Star Wars fan films… oh, you know how much we love them! Here is a fun one put out by A Whitelist Production just a couple of weeks ago. It’s called “Kara” and it’s a little over 7 minutes long so it’s not going to eat up your entire afternoon to give it a watch. I will say this though: it left me wanting to see more from these guys. For an unofficial Star Wars film, it’s pretty darn good. It’s not Hollywood perfect quality but it’s really darn good and has a good feel to the story. Because they kept it so short and sweet, I think it even adds more to the appeal. Some of these fan films are too drawn out and it makes it much more difficult to capture and hold the attention of the audience for that length of time. It also draws us in,…

TOR TV: The World We Wrote – A Cinematic Tribute to Star Wars Galaxies

The World We Wrote: A Cinematic Tribute to Star Wars Galaxies [Globus] We love fan films. I loved SWG and since it was shut down in December of 2011, I have enjoyed seeing the various ways that other fans pay tribute to our beloved game. If you have not seen this video tribute to the game from Third Age Films, it’s really worth it. I feel a bit of nostalgia every time I go back and re-watch it. If you played SWG at all, you’re probably going to get some of the same warm and fuzzies when you watch this short film. It’s just over 5 minutes long so don’t feel like you have to give up a big portion of your evening to watch it. It’s hands-down one of the best SWG tribute videos ever. Check it out here: The MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, launched in 2003, was shut…

Star Wars Battlefront III Build 70217 360 Release

Many Bothans died to bring us this information. But seriously, someone got their hands on the cancelled Star Wars Battlefront III build and released it. We don’t know how to he did it. We’re not even going to ask. But it’s definitely interesting. The poster claims he’s not even a Star Wars fan but he just likes prototype games like this. A couple of days ago, 4chan user ProtoFaggot posted a development build of the game to /v/, 4chan’s video game board. SWTOR Season 6 PvP Statistics

Are you curious about how SWTOR PvP went along in Season 6? You know how we love bringing you player-based graphics, videos and other goodies? Well, here’s a good infographic that gives us a ton of interesting stats about Season 6. You can see the best solo PvP classes, some notable players like Sirox and Fitvelkiz, the best NA and EU servers and a graph of their ratings, and the links to more figures. It’s fairly simple and I would love to see even more data in there but overall, it’s a pretty decent chart. I love data so I’m all about seeing more but as I said, it’s still pretty interesting. If you want the actual figures, you can find them here. It contains much more data about class-specifics in Star Wars: The Old Republic. This spreadsheet really got my interest even more than the infographic because I just…

Top 10 Worst Star Wars Games of all times

We’ve talked time and time again about all the Star Wars games that have come out over the years. In fact, there’s been more than 30 years of Star Wars games published and they are most definitely not all created equal. So as much as we love to share all of our favorite games, it can sometimes be just as entertaining to talk about the ones that bombed it. With over 100 games based on the Star Wars franchise, you have to expect that a few might not measure up like the rest. Here’s a video from GameTrailers on the Top 10 Worst Star Wars Games of all times, that includes Yoda Stories (aww, it was such a good idea that just wasn’t implemented well), Super Bombad Racing (another great idea not implemented well), Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and more. GT tells us exactly why each of the 10 makes it…

Star Wars: The Old Republic Deserves a Second Chance

We are not the only ones who think SWTOR deserves a second chance from those who gave up on the game early on. While launch was a bit rocky, it’s come a long way since then and the “hate” online seems to have died down some in recent months. Still, from time to time you’ll see comments from people bashing on SWTOR who have not even given it a legitimate chance recently. I get it, first impressions are incredibly important. First impressions can really make or break a game sometimes. I’ve been there myself (many times). But SWTOR is truly a game that deserves a second chance if it’s been some time since you last tried it (or if you know someone who quit and you think they might like it now). This opinion piece from Philip Kollar at Polygon expresses it all quite well. Philip was a WoW nut like me,…

Episode VII Stormtrooper in EA Battlefront Files?

Here’s a rumor (or possible hoax) for you regarding Star Wars Battlefront. Someone claims to have found game files that indicate there might be First Order Stormtroopers in the game. He created a video for it showing these models/files. AngryEchidna says, “In the workshop for SFM i noticed a file that had models from Starwars Battlefront (The third main one) and among the files uploaded is a highly detailed New Order Stormtrooper. I put some of the other models from Battlefront in the video so you can compare the level of detail for yourself.” See the video here: So what do you think? People are skeptical, and rightly so. So far, no one else has been able to replicate it so it’s really looking like it might just be a hoax. When you add in the fact that the video came out just after the game was launched, there’s a very…
