Battlefield Game Modes That Should Be Added to Star Wars: Battlefront

In addition to the usual game modes of most Battlefront games, some fans are looking for some new games modes with a Star Wars theme for the newest installment of Star Wars: Battlefront. Tom from Battlefront News created a great video with his ideas for potential game modes. We have some Wookiee love, a Bounty Hunter mode and of course, Armada. He explains each game mode, how it works and how it would be played, complete with the objectives breakdown.

No Clone Wars in Star Wars: Battlefront (for Now)

We’ve been keeping an eye on the development of DICE’s much-hyped Star Wars: Battlefront ever since the first few crumbs of information surfaced in this respect and it has been becoming increasingly clear that the game – which is indeed shaping up as a truly monumental and epic effort – will only cover a small part of the Star Wars universe, namely the original trilogy and its locations. While this is by no means bad news, it does mean that there will probably be no Clone Wars lore elements in the game. The Clone Wars era earned no mentioning in the impressive E3 trailer presented by the developer, the locations the team has scouted and the LucasFilm museum that the visited this summer are also indicative of an original trilogy-only focus. If anything, for the fans of the series, those awaiting the release of the title with bated breath, this…

Will Star Wars: Battlefront Be the Best Star Wars Game Ever?

There’s a lot of talk about Star Wars: Battlefront as the game gets closer to completion. Fans are anxious for another Star Wars game and at this point, just publishing and shipping a game with a Star Wars theme would be better than how other expected Star Wars titles have worked out recently. DICE wants to do more than just make a game, however. They want to create the “best Star Wars game ever. That’s a big undertaking, depending on who you ask. However, developer DICE has a strong vision for Battlefront and they spoke with MCV about what they wanted to do with the game. “Historically DICE hasn’t worked on licenses that are not our own,” according to Battlefield studio’s general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson. “So this is different for us. If someone came to us with another licence then we’d probably say no, but, in this case, Star Wars has a…

Comic-Con: Marvel Unveils Three New ‘Star Wars’ Comic Titles

More fun Star Wars news to come out of Comic-Con – three new Star Wars titles. The three titles will take place between “A New Hope” and “The Empire Strikes Back”, during the aftermath of the Death Star’s destruction. It will explore both the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire stories. This new line of comics will come in January 2015, a good time for Marvel Entertainment as they have already revealed they will be releasing their first in a series of hardcover collections of the original comics. Hollywood Reporter has some details: The announcement was made at Marvel’s “Cup o’ Joe” panel at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday afternoon, and followed the January announcement that Marvel had been awarded the comic book license for the Disney property, as well as the news earlier this month of a series of hardcover collections of Marvel’s earlier Star Wars material. The three series announced were: Star…

Star Wars Battlefront: to Tie in or Not to Tie in With Episode VII?

Lately, there has been some speculation in regards to whether or not DICE’s much-hyped upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront – a title already sweating under the burden of the expectations of the community – will in any significant way be tied in to Episode VII, the upcoming movie of the Star Wars franchise, just as hotly expected, and probably even more pressured by outlandish fan expectations, and officials linked to the project have done a poor job at bringing any sort of clarity to the debate, to say the least. DICE’s Patrick Soderlund had the following to say about the release date of the game “Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn’t say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn’t say that we’re directly tied…

Status Update on Hood Toggle

Eric Musco posted an update on the official forums yesterday regarding hood toggle. Eric replied to a user named Pingonaut who had the following question: It has been more than two years since the game launched, and that’s two years of players asking for a way to toggle the hoods on their outfits. In this Community Q&A from February 2012 we were told that the hood toggle likely be in the next major patch after Game Update 1.2. Delays are acceptable, this is not. He even goes so far as to say that the functionality will be available for our companions, as well. This means that the feature was being tested and worked on enough to where they could release such information. If there were problems or bugs with the hood toggle option that kept it from being released, why not tell us? Why just leave us in the dark,…

Star Wars Community Buzzing, Churning Out Wild Battlefront Ideas

The E3 trailer of Star Wars: Battlefront, presented by DICE – which we have referenced countless times on these pages – gave the populous Star Wars community but a minute taste of what could be achieved through the engine used by the developer, but it was more than enough to give wings to the imaginations of those who can hardly wait to get their hands on the working title. Indeed, from the handful of scenes released through the trailer, it was obvious that great things should be expected from the game, so in this piece, we’ll take a look at some of the ideas inspired by the first Battlefront performance of the Frostbite engine. A couple of the most popular such ideas are about the Death Star and the Super Star Destroyer being featured as locations in the game. The Death Star and its eventual destruction have thus far been…

Star Wars Battlefront: A New Era?

While there is little information coming out about Star Wars Battlefront and we are excited here, especially since it’s been nearly 10 years since the last release. Fans have been clamoring for any information at all about the release of the sequel. When the news of Star Wars: Battlefront 3’s cancellation hit and fans were let down, only to find out about an upcoming DICE interpretation of the franchise, it meant a rocky road for fans. So many ups and downs. Would this one see the light of day? Would it be a let down? When it comes to the Star Wars franchise, fans have seen a few adaptations now and just like people are worrying about the new films, there are those who were not fans of the previous series of prequels. I mean, how many people were disappointed in The Phantom Menace? For many, the hype was too…

Star Wars: Battlefront – Release Date Already Pushed Back?

Shortly after the E3 trailer of Star Wars: Battlefront was shown, people began speculating a possible release date for the title. A commonly floated time-frame was the first quarter of 2015, placing the game’s release within striking distance of Star Wars:  Episode 7, something which – as I have said before – would indeed make perfect sense from a marketing angle. According to some very recent rumors however, it now looks like a more likely release time-frame for the much awaited title is late 2015/early 2016. While these are indeed just rumors and nothing has been confirmed by DICE in this respect, and while such a push-back of the release date definitely pains die-hard fans of the Star Wars universe, there may unfortunately be some solid reasoning behind it all. While development has indeed begun as evidenced by the above-said E3 trailer, it may already be running late, given how…

Star Wars Battlefront TRAILER ANALYSIS from E3 2014

Some very exciting Star Wars related news came out of E3 this week. Ten years ago, LucasArts and Pandemic Studios gave the world “Star Wars: Battlefront,” one of the most popular Star Wars video games ever made. A year later, LucasArts published the console-only sequel “Battlefront II.”  After that, we did not see or hear a lot in the development of this game franchise. But now, we have some exciting news.  At E3 2013, Electronic Arts, which currently has the rights to the Star Wars video game franchise, showed a teaser trailer for a game it titled “Star Wars: Battlefront.” The studio said very little after this and would leave us wondering what and when, this game might come to light. Recently at E3 2014, Election Arts once again teased some footage from the upcoming “Battlefront” title, although it was mostly comprised of pre-rendered cutscenes spliced with some behind-the-scenes storytelling from the DICE…

Footage from cancelled Star Wars game shows Darth Maul in action

Video game developer Red Fly Studios and publisher LucasArts were working on a new Star Wars based Darth Maul video game experience in 2010, which was supposed to expand the gameplay mechanics that were introduced in The Force Unleashed. Footage of the game has emerged online and sources are saying that the game was designed to initially be launched only on the Wii U by the same team that handled the port for Star Wars: The Force Unleashes II. LucasArts was impressed with the initial development work done by Red Fly Studios and decided to also greenlight the title for the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Prototypes were being created in late 2010 using Darth Maul and his unique double-sided lightsaber as the core feature, but it seems that George Lucas intervened in order to add a cooperative element to the title, with the inclusion of Darth…

EA Plans to Model Star Wars Games after Batman Arkham Series

Reports and interviews coming out say EA plans to model their Star Wars games after the Batman Arkham series. “We’re not trying to build a game that replicates the storyline of any particular film,” says EA boss. EA is telling the fans we shouldn’t expect the upcoming Star Wars games to be based directly on the Star Wars films themselves. Instead, EA will approach it in the same way that Warner Bros. did with the Batman Arkham series. Basically they are not planning to build a game that copies any particular storyline of the films. Instead, they are going to take the core roots of the IP and create an additional interactive experience that fans can enjoy. This is interesting because it also gives the more flexibility with what they do with the games. Remember EA acquired the Star Wars license exclusively last May and it will last for at…

Star Wars Retro games: Star Was Monopoly

Hasbro Interactive’s Star Wars Monopoly is a fully animated interactive PC version of Parker Brothers’ 1997 Monopoly board game, albeit with the 20th Anniversary “Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition” twist. Although the rules remain the same as the classic Monopoly game and the goal still is to buy up as many properties as possible and not becoming bankrupt, the setting is no longer Earthbound (as in Atlantic City) but the Star Wars galaxy from the Classic trilogy. In Star Wars Monopoly, one can either play solo against the computer’s artificial intelligence (AI), other human players (the “hot seat” option), or on the Internet through such portals as the MSN Game Zone. (Players who install this game will notice it will later show up on their MSN or Windows Messenger as an additional option.) While it’s always more fun to play against other people, the solo player game can be very…

It’s official: Star Wars comics will return to Marvel in 2015

Marvel will publish new “Star Wars” comic books beginning in 2015, the company announced yesterday. This means Dark Horse Comics is losing the licensing deal its had for over 20 years, but give Dark Horse the time to wrap up storylines in current series. Its first was Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy’s “Dark Empire,” in 1989. The first Star Wars comics were originally published by Marvel in the ’70s based on the original “Star Wars” trilogy for nine years, starting in 1977. “Star Wars #1″ sold more than 1 million copies. Now the rights have returned to Marvel, which plans to release its first new-new Star Wars comics and graphic novels in 2015. Perhaps uncoincidentally, 2015 is also the year that J.J. Abrams’ yet-untitled Star Wars film is scheduled to hit theaters. Here is a snippet from the press release sent out: The Walt Disney Company’s Lucasfilm Ltd. and Marvel…

Star Wars: Attack Squadrons Announced – A Free-to-Play Space Shooter

Disney is taking its next stab at the Star Wars license in video game form. Today, the company announced a brand new space combat title in the franchise’s already well-established catalogue. Developed by Area 52 Games, Star Wars: Attack Squadrons is a free-to-play PC dogfighting game, which will feature 16-player combat and a plethora of familiar Star Wars spacecraft such as X-Wings and Tie-Fighters. Rumors surrounding Attack Squadrons began to bubble up shortly after Disney closed LucasArts, when the company was seen registering multiple domains seemingly related to the new game. It seems that Lucas-inspired gaming is alive and well: along with this new game, fans can already expect the new, DICE-developed Star Wars: Battlefront, which debuted at E3, to land in 2015. The announcement came alongside a site launch and the opening of beta registrations. You can try your hand at putting your name down for the beta, but, be warned: the system has been…

Second Anniversary Rewards Coming December 17th

BioWare will be celebrating the second anniversary of Star Wars: The old republic on Tuesday December 17th. With this they will be rewarding all players with players with exclusive Scout Starfighter Paint Jobs and 25 stacks of faction-based fireworks. Pretty boring rewards if you ask me. I still have last years fireworks sitting in a cargo hold on 95%(+-5%) of my toons. I’m guessing that I’m not the only one here that still hve it. The paint job is kinda cool but it only applies to my least used ship. Am I mad about it? No. Disappointed? Sure. It’s hard to get mad about a freebie. Not so hard to be disappointed about feeling slightly under-appreciated as a customer. Below is the announcement: We are excited to celebrate two years of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™! As our thanks to you, we’ll be rewarding all players with exclusive Scout Starfighter…

Star Wars: Battlefront development has been temporarily put on hold

Apparently Electronic Arts have stopped all future projects by developer DICE, until they sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4. Apparently  there is an issue with BF4, which have been leading to numerous game crashes.  The developer’s decision to stop all other work to fix the problematic Battlefield 4 also extends to all future game development. Here is what IGN have on the story: “First, we want to thank the fans out there that are playing and supporting us with Battlefield 4,” they said. “We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game — it is absolutely our No. 1 priority. “The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game. Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final stages of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4, we decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week, but we’re…
