SWTOR Lead Composer Comments on Datamined KOTET Music

That feeling when you post datamined music and then the composer comes along to comment… yeah, that happened. User Jedipedia posted a 1 hour no-spoiler feed of music from KotET and lead composer Jesse Harlin stopped in for a comment. You can see the full thread with links to the music here.  Basically, the data mined music files are just the MIDI demos that were later replaced by an actual live performance. Honestly, those demo files don’t sound half bad and they definitely get us excited for the real thing that is coming soon. As for Harlin’s comment: “Hi, SWTOR. Lead composer Jesse Harlin here. Perhaps I can help to give some context on this for you all. This happened last time with KotFE and now it’s happened again with KotET. Just so that everyone knows, these are the rough demos that eventually turn into the final tracks. We headed to Nashville…

You should definitely head on over there and read it in full for yourself but here’s a snippet: Will SWTOR‘s future development continue in this chapter-focused story direction? From a writing standpoint, I think the chapter style is really strong, and has led to a significant improvement in the quality and presentation of the story. My own personal perception is that chapters are most fun when “binged” and played together rather than spread out individually,…

BioWare Says the MMO Market Has Never Been Bigger

Are people still playing MMOs? The director of Star Wars: The Old Republic insists that the MMO market has never been bigger. While some of the biggest hitters in the industry, like Blizz’s World of Warcraft, are seeing declining numbers, James Ohlen says it’s a good time to be in the MMO business. “The MMO genre is much bigger than it ever has been before – it’s just that people misunderstand what the genre actually consists of now,” James Ohlen said in an interview with MCV. He goes on to talk about how people once thought MMOs were just for hardcore PC games but the genre has expanded. We see MMO games that don’t call themselves that in the traditional sense. We also see MMOs on different platforms, which wasn’t so common in the past. When you look at things from this perspective, it’s easy to see why one would say the MMO…

Star Wars Fan Film 2016: Renegade Kenobi

The story is fun and creative, the film is well done for a fan film, and it definitely has a nice Star Wars feel to it. There’s also a fun little Easter egg in there around the 21:00 marker (or a bit after). The lightsaber blade and effects are good looking and were apparently done by hand in After Effects. Sounds like it took awhile but it does look really good. So we don’t want to ruin the story for you. It’s really best that you go ahead and experience it for yourself. You can watch below, as it’s not a super long film. Of course, fans always seem to have varied opinions on these fan…

Millions are Still Playing Star Wars: Battlefront According to EA

Are people still playing Battlefront? Are there as many playing as there were when it first launched? According to EA, millions of people are still playing online shooter Star Wars: Battlefront. EA reported its financial results for the three month period ending 30th June, and during that time 6.6 million played DICE’s Star Wars game. To many players, these stats are surprising since it doesn’t seem like there is as much interest in the game as there was at launch. The Battlefront community seems to have dropped from its high after release in November 2015. Complaints litter the forums and other online communities surrounding the lack of content and depth of the gameplay. While EA may have tried to play on the current popularity of Star Wars to boost the game even more, it still seems to fall flat after you’ve played it for some time. The surprise is that not that…

EA Tries to Schedule Star Wars Games Aligned with Upcoming Movies

EA says it will do its best to align some of its Star Wars games and content with the upcoming Star Wars movies. Honestly, is that really surprising to anyone anyway? It will definitely be in their benefit to do so as this will increase the popularity of the games and the number of people who sign on to play them. At this year’s Star Wars fan experience, Star Wars Celebration 2016, the Rogue One DLC for Star Wars Battlefront was announced. This DLC seems to be entwined with the release of the Rogue One movie. SWTOR Yavin IV Stronghold

It can be a lot of fun to see what other players do with their strongholds. There are so many things you can potentially do that there are no limits to the ideas players have come up with. Some have very clean, Ikea-like layouts and themes. Others go for a more rustic, realistic of the time frame plan. Some people just toss everything they like in there and call it a day. No matter what kind of player you are, you can do your own thing with strongholds and it’s a lot of fun. Bound to legacy upon purchase, strongholds are accessed by anyone in the same legacy, in some cases even characters of the opposite faction. You can also find stronghold listings available for all four planets across all servers. This is a lot of opportunity to do your stronghold just the way you want it and some players…

LucasFilm Uses Legal Force to Shut Down Star Wars Battlefront Copycat

Did you hear about the studio Frontwire who announced that it was releasing a Star Wars Battlefront successor titled Galaxy in Turmoil via Steam? It sounded like a good idea, right? Well, there’s just one little problem. They didn’t get any licensing rights from EA or Lucasfilm so the project was essentially an unauthorized knock off. They never had permission to use the Star Wars IP and this is a big problem, especially at a time when Star Wars is as popular as it is. Frontwire president Tony Romanelli detailed in a blog post that as of June 22, Frontwire received a letter from Lucasfilm requesting development on Galaxy in Turmoil be halted immediately. he goes on to explain how he didn’t want to just give up so easily so he reached out to Lucasfilm to request a meeting. They obliged and some negotiations were made. Unfortunately (but not unexpectedly), no…

Last Player in the Galaxy

While it’s now available to play again thanks to SWG emu, there was a time when we thought we’d never see this game again and it was sad for the players who had made this game their home for so many years. If you’ve ever experienced a game shutdown like this before, you know that it can really affect you personally. You put a lot of time and energy into the game. You meet friends and you invest time with these friends. You create characters and you time, attention, and even love into building those characters and leveling them up. The experiences of the characters are like your own experiences. So for all of…
