KOTOR 1 vs KOTOR 2

KOTOR 1 or KOTOR 2: which is better? This is no easy question to answer, since both have developed very loyal followings. YouTuber nerdSlayer has attempted to answer this question in his video, simply titled “KOTOR 1 vs KOTOR 2.” He breaks down his analysis along the lines of four different criteria: graphics (how the games look), ambience (the feel and immersion of the game), story (strength of the plot and the characters), and gameplay (the mechanics of how the game works). In terms of graphics, nerdSlayer considers how KOTOR 1 ( Download it free with Amazon Underground here) for  has a neutral color scheme. The planets all have a different look but no scenes are overbearing to the eye. KOTOR 2 is much darker by comparison and its colors are muted. That same darkness present in KOTOR 2 heavily influences its ambience, which is all around darker. KOTOR 1…

BioWare Interview and SWTOR Knights of the Eternal Throne

We’ve been seeing some changes to SWTOR, especially since last year when the developers shifted the focus of the game. They decided to boost the single-player aspects of the game and while there were some players who leaned more toward the MMORPG aspect who didn’t like this, there are many more who love the story and the single-player elements. In short, they’re doing what works for them and many fans and Knights of the Fallen Empire was a clear example of that. But now we have SWTOR Knights of the Eternal Throne. Is the focus still on single-player elements? Why can’t a game be both great for single player and great for multi-player? Long time World of Warcraft players will attest that game got it right. There’s something for everyone and you don’t need to invest any time in multiplayer aspects of the game if it’s not your thing, but still…

How SWTOR Could Compromise on Galactic Command

Are you sick and tired of the game of chance lottery that is the Galactic Command system? You won’t be alone in this thinking because many fans of the game have spoken out about how this system frustrates them. While we know it’s not likely they are going to change it at all, our pal Xam Xam from Xam Xam Says has an idea about how they could compromise. While we don’t expect them to do it, it can be fun to talk about the possibilities and who knows? Maybe Bioware is listening and will decide to give it a try! You can read the full post here but here’s the basic idea from Xam Xam: “If SWTOR brought back Commendation/Crystal vendors into the game but kept the Galactic Command system as it is, would that be acceptable? Reduce how many Commendations we earn a little but still have them as a…

Obsidian Says they’d Love to Make KOTOR III

Obsidian Entertainment, the developers of the very popular Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II announced this week that they’d love to make a KOTOR III. During a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) session held earlier, they also said that they would enjoy returning to work on the Fallout Series. Many fans of both franchises would likely love to see them return to make the great content they do so well. But just because they’d be up for doing it and fans would likely appreciate it, doesn’t mean they’re going to get the chance. As social media manger Mikey Dowling said, “The title is out of our hands as EA has the license for the games. We’d love to return to the galaxy far, far away if we had the chance!” Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart said, “If you could pitch EA on that for us, I’d be your friend for life.”…

Star Wars Hoth Uprisings Developer Live Stream

If you wanted to learn more about Star WarsHhoth Uprising, there was a developer life stream on November 10th that cleared up a lot of things for us. The hosts, community manager Eric Musco and the 2 hosts from The Bad Feeling Podcast show – Chuck and Brian, used this lives stream event to show a live playthrough on a test server of Firefrost. Firefrost is one of the new Uprisings, found on Hoth. They mixed up the format a bit from what we are used to in resent producer live streams and it worked out well. There wasn’t a lot of especially new info or details released but it’s a great overview for anyone who hasn’t been following along, and the game play is always fun to look at. Here are some highlights or takeaways from the event: We saw one of the new non mod-able 242 item level…

Star Wars: Battlefront Getting a Change in Leadership

According to a Tweet from Battlefront’s lead designer, Dennis Brannvall, there could be a change in leadership happening. He announced he has worked his last day on Battlefront and it’s time to pass the reigns. He’s taking paternity leave to help out with his boys, one a recently announced new addition to the family. So today I worked my last day on Battlefront. I’ll be on paternity leave, taking care of my two boys. See you next year! — Dennis Brännvall (@DICE_FireWall) November 7, 2016 Many from the US will agree that we need better maternity/paternity leave programs here as dads nearly never secure time off and the mothers get only a short time, or are sometimes forced to quit or have their positions replaced while they are away on maternity leave. Lucky for Brannvall, he lives in a country that respects the value of family and he should be back…

News released about Star Wars Battlefront 2 and not surprisingly, it will be releasing in Fall of 2017, just in time for Star Wars 8. While this is certainly not a surprise to anyone, it’s still good to get a confirmation. We still don’t have a lot of information yet and we don’t even know for sure what the title is going to be. The first Star Wars Battlefront (technically the third main Battlefront game, and the second to have that exact title) came out in 2015 and tied in with the release of The Force Awakens. “We’re working very hard on making sure that it’s an extremely deep and engaging offering,” EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed in a conference call with financial analysts. He said the game will release in “a year from now” and just in time for the holidays. While it’s not a firm release date…

Weird Experiences in MMOs

So SWTOR is not alone in the world of “weird stuff that happened to me” when it comes to MMORPGs. I have more than a few stories I could tell as well. Two of my favorites are “I gotta go to New Jersey” and “Sorry guys, my grandma died.” Both of these are amusing to me in the way in which they were delivered. I’ll give you the short versions: Gotta Go to New Jersey – This was a WoW story, actually. We were all queued up for a dungeon. It wasn’t anything too difficult. I think it was mid-30s stuff when the level cap was still 60 (Vanilla WoW here). We have a good group and we’re moving right along at a steady pace when suddenly our healer says, “I gotta go to New Jersey.” His character stops moving and I think one of us said, “What?” and then…

Carrie Fisher Says Trump Has “Coke Sniff”

If you watched the US Presidential debate last night, or the first presidential debate, you may have noticed that Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump, had a bit of a sniffling problem. Even if you didn’t see it for  yourself, you may have seen social media, especially Twitter, having a ball laughing and speculating over it. This is something many onlookers took note of with the first debate. Trump’s sniffles were a big topic of conversation after the first debate on September 26, and the sniffles returned for the second debate leading someone to ask Fisher about it via Twitter. Fisher was asked through social media during the debate Sunday night if Trump was a “coke head” and her answer isn’t really all that surprising. “I’m an expert & ABSOLUTELY,” the Star Wars actress responded on her verified Twitter account. @reimamy I’m an expert & ABSOLUTELY — Carrie Fisher (@carrieffisher) October 10,…

Jesse Harlin Talks Star Wars 1313 and More

PC Gamer’s Joe Donnelly talks with Mafia 3’s composer about Star Wars 1313, the blues, mariachi bands in Monkey Island and much more. The interview is really interesting and it’s well worth the time for you to head on over and read it in full for yourself. If you’re not familiar with Jesse Harlin, chances are you are familiar with his work and you might not even know it. He composed the music for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Battlefront 2, and The Old Republic. Some of his hard work was also slashed when 1313 was tossed in the reject bin, Sadly, just like the game itself, this is something we may never get to hear.
