The Story Behind the Doomed Battlefront 3

Sadly, there was a battlefront game that was never meant to be: Battlefront 3. Star Wars Battlefront is an action shooter video game developed by EA DICE, with additional work from Criterion Games, and published by Electronic Arts. Battlefront 3 was the game that we never got. Details and salvaged footage from Free Radical’s Star Wars Battlefront 3 can now be found online. The same game was once in alpha at TimeSplitters development studio, but cancelled. Eventually DICE picked it up and rebooted it, but without any of the original ideas. A Battlefront 3 campaign was going to see twin clones on a mission to boost the Galactic Republic. So fans of Star Wars: Battlefront I and Star Wars: Battlefront II were looking for their Star Wars: Battlefront III and got Star Wars Battlefront instead. A lot of people were disappointed in EA’s Star Wars Battlefront for various reasons. Many will agree…

Star Wars Games Bootlegs and Hacks

We’ve seen many Star Wars games: some good, some bad, some never released, but how about the hacks? YouTuber SpaceHamster gives us the rundown of some comically bad hacks bearing the Star Wars name. Some of these hacks are low effort ventures: Escape from Hoth inserts a tiny, pixelated Millennium Falcon into the Atari game Asteroids, for instance. There’s also a hack that inserts the name of iconic Star Wars characters into the NES game Baseball Stars but is otherwise identical to the original game. Other hacks are hilarious for the scenarios they generate. A fine example is a Battle City hack that puts Luke in the Death Star with an assault rifle. Another is the Yoda Bros., a minimalist, one-level hack of Super Mario Bros. Some hacks don’t even pretend to make much sense. Star Wars: Jedy (yes, that’s how it’s actually spelled) hacks the Sega Genesis game Wolfchild…

Top 5 Female SITH from Star Wars

While many people know the male Sith lords, fewer people know about the great females of the Sith. This was an equal opportunity universe and there were just as many female powerful Sith as there were male. In fact, some of the females rose to power, overtaking their own masters, or leading independently in their own right. Here’s a great video I happened upon that lists some of the top five female Sith from Star Wars. One reason I love this video so much is that he pretty much picked my picks. If I had to create a top list, it would include the same ladies. In fact, I would have picked the very same one for 1st place. Darth Cagnes: The Strategic Mastermind Background and Rise to Power Darth Cagnes is a lesser-known yet incredibly influential Sith Lord. Her strategic mind and mastery of the dark side allowed her…

Concept Art Revealed from Cancelled Darth Maul Video Game

Do you remember that Darth Maul video game that was being developed by Red Fly Studios a few years ago? Many fans were sad to see it put on ice after Lucas sold the Star Wars license over to Disney. Alas, it was yet another canned Star Wars games and since Darth Maul had a pretty big following among fans, the disappointment was definitely real. If you didn’t hear about this game back then, it really sounded cool. Since the game was cancelled, we have seen some concept art appear here and there, showing us what might have been. Now, conceptual artist Thomas A. A Look Back At KOTOR 2

In the Star Wars universe, we usually find it easy to see the difference between the Dark Side and the Light Side. Lightsaber colors, clothing choices, and other factors make it clear which side a character is on. This battle for balance between the Dark and Light is part of the point of the Star Wars story. If you played KOTOR 2, however, you start to see for the first time in a Star Wars game that there is grey area. Sometimes it’s not so easy to block a character into one side of the other. KOTOR 2 is the perfect example of this. In this game, the villain is not always so easy to spot. Sometimes the lines between “good” and “bad” are blurred, or difficult to spot. This is something that adds a new, creative, and more interesting element to KOTOR 2, versus KOTOR 1. Sometimes characters are…

Gaming History : Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast – “The Jedi Simulator”

Back before the Disney Era, back before Electronic Arts was the only company allowed to make Star Wars games, there was a series named Star Wars Dark Forces Jedi Knight, staring the bearded wonder himself, Kyle Katarn. And though his age has long passed, let us remember that one day, long ago, there existed something called a Jedi Sim. GaminGHD has a great video that takes us back in time to enjoy a bit of nostalgic video game and Star Wars history. Here’s a great blast from the past, especially as we look at new Star Wars games coming out today and lament the many cancelled Star Wars games that will sadly never see the light of the day. With their father dead, and their crops not selling, it’s time to decide what to do. Evil comes knocking, and one Jedi finds you can’t hide forever. A coward can’t be a hero. This Star Wars fan film from ThePsychoJellyfish is a good watch. It attempts to bring a deeper story to the Star Wars universe. It comes in just over 13 minutes so it’s a quick watch. It’s a little slow in parts and some of the acting a little stiff in places, but all in all, it’s a great story and it’s produced well. It’s unique, shows the struggles real people would have in this position, and the price that is often paid for trying to do the right thing during a time of war. What happens when…

Cancelled TIE Fighter vs X-Wing 2 Gameplay

What could be better than a Star Wars flight sim? Like most of you, I love Star Wars. I grew up loving Star Wars. There are so many things to love about the films, the characters, the story, and the universe. However, one thing that I loved more than anything else was the flying. As a little girl growing up, I wanted to be a pilot. I worshiped Top Gun and I used to love going to my friend’s house to play Microsoft Flight Simulator. So of course, when I watched Star Wars, I adored the flight scenes. From TIE Fighters to X-Wings to ships made from piles of junk and massive Star Destroyers, I loved them all. I loved in-space fights, races, and even just the typical “boring” flights from one planet to another. You can imagine then, that nothing would make me happier than a Star Wars game…

Fan films and shorts are a great way to get your fix while you await the next official films. Honestly, it’s more than a guilty pleasure because some of these fan-made films hold their own against the official films. So I stumbled across this one and as a fan of Han Solo (who isn’t?), I really enjoyed it. It comes in under 15 minutes so it won’t take up a lot of your day to give it a watch and it keeps with the feel and personality of Solo that we all know and love. There’s not a lot of actors who could pull off Han Solo so well but this one definitely is impressive. He has the look, the attitude, and the entire…

It has some really great art, including cards for some of the new characters of Rogue One. It also has several different ways that you can play. You can participate in battles, collect…

Death of a Game: Star Wars Galaxies

Many of us remember, with differing degrees of fondness, Star Wars Galaxies. The 2003 MMORPG underwent many substantial changes in its lifetime before its close in 2011, and YouTuber nerdSlayer chronicles the rise and fall of the game in his recent video, “Death of a Game: Star Wars Galaxies.” nerdSlayer breaks his video down into two parts: first, he narrates the game’s timeline from its creation to its demise, and second, he analyzes what went wrong that caused the game to die. In the case of Galaxies, it’s interesting to reflect upon what should have been a very sound pedigree for the game’s development. LucasArts partnered with none other than the distinguished talent of Verant Interactive, best known for EverQuest. In addition, one of the lead developers on Galaxies was Raph Koster, lead designer from the other well-known MMORPG of the time, Ultima Online. Despite this, Galaxies had a very…
