Hip Hop Star Wars

My pal, Richie Branson, who we told you about before back in 2012, is making the trending list again, this time with a Star Wars mixtape you’re going to want to play on repeat. I have always been a fan of Biggie Smalls and of course, of Star Wars, but leave it to Richie to come up with an idea to blend the two. He got with a buddy of his to make it happy and the results are glorious! We’re not the only ones to think so because the album has essentially gone viral since it hit the net and it’s being mentioned all over the place. It was at 2.5 million streams and counting, featured on livemixtapes, USA Today, Comedy Central and more. Yesterday it was trending on Twitter for quite some time with the hashtag #HIPHOPSTARWARS. It’s still making the rounds across the Internet and if you haven’t…

Will We See Yoda in a Battlefront DLC?

While it’s true that we feel like they’d do anything to sell Star Wars: Battlefront and the subsequent DLCs, we still find it interesting that we just might see an appearance by Yoda in a future content release. It’s also expected that Kylo Ren will be in the game and we think this is pretty cool as well. It makes sense as we know EA is going to try to play on the popularity of the release of The Force Awakens to try to sell more DLC too. See above What does this mean? Well, it might mean next to nothing. Just because we see Yoda’s voice actor listed on IMDb doesn’t mean it’s accurate (although usually it is) and it doesn’t mean we’re going to see Yoda in the game. Perhaps it’s just a voice-over? He could appear as just a hologram giving  you some game advice. It really could be anything…

“Night at the Museum” Meets “Star Wars”

The Oklahoma Science Museum knows how to keep a child’s interest. In fact, I wish I was a kid and I wish I lived in Oklahoma because I would be all over this. On Friday,December 11, Oklahoma Science Museum is hosting a Science Overnight program inspired by the wildly popular “Star Wars” movie franchise. It’s like a big, Star Wars-themed slumber party! The museum director of education and training, Clint Stone, said the overnight exhibit will have trained science educators who teach the visitors about the science of “Star Wars”, comparing ways the real world stacks up against a galaxy far, far away. It’s a timely event, considering the upcoming release of Star Wars: A Force Awakens but it’s more than just exploiting the popularity of the film to get kids interested in science. This is a great example of how Star Wars truly is a culture, rather than just a movie franchise….

Star Wars Card Game: A Story from Memory Lane

Ah, card games… an interesting little pastime that has grown in popularity since Wizards of the Coast put out Magic: The Gathering in 1993. I was still young then and it would be a few years more before I started playing but I still play MTG today. I played a lot of card games over the years, none in as much depth as MTG (except maybe Pokemon – don’t judge). However, there is one card game I really wish I had played more of. My friend came to school with a deck one day and we were very much enthralled. It was the Star Wars Card Game. To play, you needed a 60-card deck with your characters, locations and effects. It was pricey to build a deck, especially if you were particular about playing your favorite Star Wars characters or scenes. Just like most card games, they were sold in individual packs…

RIP Dark Edge Gaming: SWTOR Loses One of Its Own

When you’ve spent a lot of time in a game, and within a community, you start to think of these people as your friends. Some of them even as family. Although you may not have ever met in person, the bonds you from with these online friends is real. Some, however, do go on to meet in person. Romances have budded from online gaming, and lifelong friendships have been formed. This is why it is always so sad when we lose one of our own. It’s is with a heavy heart that we write today about the death of Joe Keyser, known by many in the SWTOR community as Dark Edge Gaming. His quick wit and passion for the game are things that will be greatly missed. Iamsechari has a little write-up here: I am very saddened to have heard about the loss of Joe Keyser, known to many in…

There is an Upset in the Force within SWG Community

Last month there was some drama in the SWG community. We hesitated to even write about it right away, lest we stir the hornet’s nest. It’s also not completely clear what even happened. We suspect only the parties directly involved know all of the truth. That said, there are recordings of the Teamspeak conversation that took place on this subject and people who have come forward since the big blowup to add details. Here are the basics of what we can unfurl. Apparently there was a mass hacking, or what was believed to be a mass hacking, in SWG Reborn but then later Aconite came onto staff Teamspeak (allegedly) and said it was a takeover. That he, seefo, levarris and singe (Vlock) were taking over. There are some recordings of the entire event you can find here if you want to have a listen: The recording starts off with Aconite…

STAR WARS LEGENDS: Legacy of the Force – Fan Film

We love Star Wars fan films, as you probably know if you’ve been reading our posts for awhile now, and here is one based on a book that we really wanted to bring to your attention. It’s Star Wars Legends: Legacy of the Force and you can see the film in its entirely on YouTube (we’ve embedded it below). It’s meant to be a homage to the Expanded Universe and the canon is spot-on. The acting was good, especially for a fan film and I found it overall entertaining. If you haven’t seen it yet, just scroll down and give it a watch. Then head over and tell the crew what you think of their hard work. You can follow everything they’re up to and learn more from their Facebook page here. Some of their members are also working on a new project right now. Their page contains interviews and…

The Old Republic: Rescue Mission – (2015) Short Film

What if the only way to be a hero was to become a villain? This short fan film from Torrm Productions will answer that question for you. It’s a fantastic film that really defines true Star Wars fans. The effects, the sounds and the music (featuring KOTOR themes) was all superb. It officially released on October 18th and already many fans are asking for a sequel. The film runs a little over 20 minutes in length so it’s a good quickie you can watch after work or while taking a break. It’s well-acted, the story is on point, and it’s also shot very well. The special effects work is decent too. All in all, it’s a high quality film for what they had to work with. If you have not seen it yet, you absolutely should make some time in your schedule to do so. As far as fan films…

Footage from Cancelled Star Wars Game Revealed

We’ve talked before here about the many cancelled Star Wars games. Between those that have been shut down and those that never made it to production, it’s enough to make a Star Wars fan’s heart break. This is why many of us get so hopeful when a new game is released. Star Wars First Assault was a FPS that was shut down back in 2012. Now and again we hear rumors about this but for the most part, we assume that any real evidence of this game has gone the way of the dodo. That was until… some footage mysteriously appeared online. Leave it to the Internet to uncover the obscure. An extended gameplay video surfaced earlier this month and shows the multiplayer aspect of the game. No actual combat is shown but we get a good look at a base in Tatooine, the would-be weapons and a decent look…

TOR TV: What if SWTOR Had First-Person Mode?

So here is an interesting question that has been theorized before. What if SWTOR had a first-person mode? It worked for Elder Scrolls, right? If SWTOR had a fully fleshed out first-person mode, there would likely be a big market for it. Many current players have expressed they would enjoy it. Still others have said they don’t care much for first-person so the best solution would be a mode that you can toggle on and off. Best of both worlds – those who like it can do it and those who don’t won’t be bothered with it. This begs the question, “What would it look like?” and while we can’t be certain since it has not been done, one player has created a video to give us a general idea of what it might look like and we think it’s pretty cool. Order of Draki has this video below that demonstrates what a first-person…

Is ‘The Force Awakens’ An Oscar Contender?

When a site like The Atlantic starts talking about Star Wars films, you know it’s serious. In what many are calling a lukewarm year for film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens just might be the one true hit of the year. In fact, it could have the potential to be the biggest movie ever. That’s a pretty tall order, but can The Force Awakens really measure up? The movie is already setting records for pre-opening ticket sales. It’s causing quite a stir in all circles and it seems like everywhere you go, someone is talking about it. You can read the full article to see what The Atlantic has to say about The Force Awakens as an Oscar contender but here is a snippet: It says something about 2015 that Spotlight, Thomas McCarthy’s small, powerful drama about journalism done right, is a perceived frontrunner to win the big prize, despite its lack of any epic visual flair. Spotlight would be…

PSA: Companion Healing Getting You Down? This Solution Will Amaze You

Do you play a healer in SWTOR? Whether you are a healer man, someone who just rolled one to check it out, someone who made one to fill a need in your guild, or even someone who dislikes healer, you should give this lighthearted post a read. This post by wadewilsonmd might give you a chuckle. You can see the post made over on Reddit and if you read through the comments, you’ll also see where wage explains why the post was made: Obviously can’t speak for everyone, but I jokingly made this post because all I do is level healers (well I’ve got a few DPS that I’m leveling now that I’ve got my healers past the class stories) and never got caught up in the companion nerf hubbub. I find the experience to be a lot of fun, but in the same way healing isn’t for everyone, neither is leveling healing….

Star Wars Battlefront Review List

Are you wondering what others are saying about Star Wars: Battlefront? Were you waiting on the release to see what others had to say before shelling out your own hard-earned cash on the game? You’re not alone. In fact, some fans are saying they are waiting until it’s been out for a bit to see if the price comes down, to see if there are any holiday sales to lower the price, and also to see what others are saying about the gameplay and longevity before they invest in it themselves. When looking to reviewers and critics to help you form your own opinions of a game you might be interested in playing, it’s important that you look at more than one review. Reviews are always biased (that is the point of a review) and there are many different factors that can play into a reason behind someone does or does not…

Star Wars at the AMAs

Last night everyone was talking about the American Music Awards (AMAs). I have to admit that I don’t really follow them. I know who all the performers are so I recognize them when I see the highlights scroll past my feed on social media but I don’t actually sit down and watch the AMAs. I’m just not that interested. I also don’t care what kind of face Nicki Minaj was making during the JLo performance. What I did find interesting was that there was a Star Wars performance at the AMAs. I can’t say I am surprised, really, with the mainstream popularity soaring due to The Force Awakens.  Pentatonix is an American a cappella group consisting of five vocalists originating from Arlington, Texas. They performed a tribute of the original Star Wars theme and we also got to see Harrison Ford himself. As for the performance, they were backed by John…

As we get closer to the big movie premiere, we’re probably going to continue to see teasers and ad spots. While we were told there will be no more official trailers, we are seeing regular TV spots and Internet ads and you can probably expect to continue seeing them right up to release. This weekend we got two new TV spots to advertise the film. One was premiered during the American Music Awards (Nov 22nd) just before the performance by Pentatonix. Here it is if you missed it: This one contained some pieces of old footage with some new footage spliced in. We see Rey and how she is waiting for her family. We hear words of…

SWTOR Alliance Missions Silenced Hurts Companion Reunions

Many fans of SWTOR are of the opinion that silent alliance missions are hurting companion reunions. Most agree that any class meeting a former companion should be fully voiced. Other classes can have the text options but it takes away from the overall experience of the companion reunion and for many, it makes them feel so emotionally unattached that it ruins the experience. Imagine meeting with a companion after a long absence. You express how much you miss them and how happy you are to see them again and he/she just stands there blank-faced. Yeah… it’s kind of a let-down. For many players, one huge appeal to SWTOR was the voice acting. The live scripting really brings the game to life and enhances the story. For many fans, it is the one thing at the top of the list when we tell friends why they should be playing this game….

EA Ups Sales Estimate for Battlefront

While The Force Awakens does not release until December, many fans awaiting something new Star Wars themed have jumped onto Star Wars: Battlefront to hold them over and help pass the time. One of the most eagerly awaited games of the year, EA had predicted sales of 9 to 10 million but have since upped that estimate to 13 million. NY Times reports: “While “Star Wars” games have a checkered reputation for quality and sales, the new game, published by Electronic Arts, has created a buzz with its photorealistic graphics. The game allows players to engage in pivotal battle scenes depicted in the three original “Star Wars” movies. Electronic Arts, emboldened by demand for Star Wars Battlefront, recently bumped up its sales estimate for the game during its current fiscal year to 13 million units, from a previous estimate of 9 million to 10 million. —Nick Wingfield” While this may be what EA…

Treek DPS at Influence 50

There has been much discussion about companion stats and whether or not they are too overpowered at level 50. Before we heard a lot of players asking not to ad level-sync. They wanted to be able to clear mobs with their companion, operate on “easy mode” and plow through things. But then we heard people complain, “It’s too easy” and ask for companions to be nerfed. Let’s take a look at level 50 Treek for some perspective. Treek Influence 50 What do you think? Is it overpowered? Should players be able to use their companions to essentially farm through content? They’d still have to level up the companion and gear them out to max for it to even work anyway. Yet some people are saying the comp stats are way too high. In some cases, the companion could have as much as 700% more health than the player character. Player…

Awesome Dad Builds 23-Foot Death Star

So we’re not sure how his neighbors felt about it but we think this father is pretty awesome. For Halloween 2015, and in preparation for the release of Star Wars: Episode VII, Colby Powell and his kids build a 23-foot death star and placed it on the roof of their house. He says he plans to leave it up for sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas and then he might store it or sell it on eBay. He said he is also considering sending it to Burning Man. All construction on the death star began as a family project until it grew to a point too large for the kids to complete and he had to bring in some bigger guns. he reports that he also had people driving by who would stop and ask if they needed help and that about two dozen people contributed to the assembly without even knowing just…

Free Star Wars Book: A Force to Contend With

Just released last week, a new Star Wars book from John Erik Ege may give you something to do while you await the release of the newest film. This 360-page book can only be considered “fan fiction” as this time, as it has not yet been sanctioned by Del Rey or Walt Disney.  I have yet to read the book in full so I can’t really provide a review at this time, nor can I find any other reviews, aside from one commenter who says “Gr8 book”. I’m also not familiar with the author, although his profile shows he has written several Star Trek fan fiction books as well. At the end of the day, it’s Star Wars and it’s free, so why not give it a go? About: Explore the Force as it brings together a group of individuals who have all their lives severely impacted by the travesties…
