Exclusive to USA Today The Star Wars Trailer

Before Star Wars, there was The Star Wars! This is the authorized adaptation of George Lucas’s rough-draft screenplay of what would eventually become a motion picture that would change the world. We’re talking about Lucas’ original galaxy as it was conceived in “The Star Wars” and the Dark Horse Comics series will show you a new side of Star Wars that you have probably never seen before. See the exclusive trailer here: USA Today got the exclusive on the trailer and brings us a little background info: Luke Skywalker as an old, gray-haired general? Darth Vader as just a dude? Han Solo — secret-agent lizard? The new Dark Horse Comics series The Star Warssounds like alternate-universe weirdness for fans of George Lucas’ influential sci-fi franchise. Instead, it’s just the filmmaker’s first pass at his galaxy far, far away. The eight-issue comic launching Sept. 4 is an adaptation of Lucas’ first…

SWTOR game update 2.4 is coming in the fall and it’s adding arenas to the game that features the small-scale 4v4 battles. Not all the details are known at this time but we do know that it is an addition to the current Warzones, and adds a new competitive element to PvP in SWTOR. Therefore, it will give players more PvP action after leveling up than you have now. While this is certainly a good thing and many SWTOR players are very excited about this new update, others are not so happy. (No surprise, right?) Adding arenas to The Old Republic has both good and bad points to consider. Based on other MMOs, here are some of the ways adding arenas to SWTOR could affect gameplay. Some Players May Have an Advantage Some players are concerned that adding the arenas will give others players more of an advantage. There has…

Men Roleplaying Females in Games: Where My Girls At?

So here’s a topic I have had with male friends and even with my husband- the topic of males roelpaying females in video games. When you ask where someone stands on this issue, you can get a great deal of varied opinions, something I find really interesting. As for me, I don’t really care. I treat someone as what they represent themselves to be online. Several years ago, I played WoW as a priest in a raiding guild back when 40-mans were the top-tier endgame content. There was another priest, a female Night Elf who was a senior player to me. She taught me how to play priest, how to keep up with the tanks and when to take mana breaks without holding up the whole flow of the run. She taught me a great deal about mastering priest healing in the game and even how to lead healing for…

The book Rogue Leaders: The Story of LucasArts released in 2008 but recently has made news for the list of cancelled Star Wars games that were reported to be in development at LucasArts. The book contains logos for 20 Star Wars titles that were in development at LucasArts at that time. There are some interesting titles on the list. You will find a tie-in for Episode VII subtitled Shadows of the Sith and even a third Jedi Knight title which a lot of fans say they really wanted to see. It looks like maybe they expected to continue the Star Wars movie serious via games until the Disney contract came through. Which on the list would you most want to see? Book Description:…

Knights of the Old Republic 3 Was Being Worked On

KOTOR 3

Knights of the Old Republic could have had a part 3 and how excited would fans everywhere have been? We’ve been talking about a KOTOR 3 for some time now and it has been revealed that it was in pre-production. Creative director Chris Avellone says the 3rd installment of the popular series was in development at Obsidian and that it would have featured Revan a lot more than the second game did. Eurogamer tells us: Yes, a Knights of the Old Republic 3 game existed in pre-production at Obsidian Entertainment. To this day one decision still plagues Chris Avellone’s mind: should Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords have had more Revan in it? BioWare and LucasArts hadn’t forbidden it – instead, Obsidian had decided to focus on new characters to allow more creative breathing room. “”But I don’t know if that was the best decision,” Avellone ponders, speaking…

Hasbro Extends Disney Pact for Marvel, Star Wars Toys and Games

This was an interesting week for Electronic Arts after an agreement that would improve their stock value slightly. EA made a deal with very popular toy company Hasbro regarding the manufacture and sale of Star Wars toys. With the new movies and everything else in the works, you know these toys are going to end up being very profitable and popular. It’s not surprising really when you consider that Disney has a knack for commercializing everything. All you need is some properly placed ads and kids everywhere will be begging their parents for that new toy or game. Disney has long ruled in this department. Just take a look around any big box or department store shortly before and after a movie release and you will see character toys and games everywhere. The Motley Fool explains: On Tuesday, both Hasbro (NASDAQ: HAS  ) and Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: EA  ) stock rose slightly after the companies announced a new four-year…

Star Wars Pinball Game Review

I love pinball and I love Star Wars. I also love video games. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s take a look at Star Wars Pinball and let me tell you what I think of it. Star Wars Pinball from Zen Studios is a pretty good game for a non-arcade pinball on the Wii. It has a realistic feel to it and you start off with three tables, and have the ability to get more in the future. The initial tables are based on “Episode 5: A New Hope,” “The Clone Wars Series” and Boba Fett so there’s something good there for fans and this adds to the fun. The game also steps it up with the music and I was impressed to hear classic music from the movies. There’s something here for both Star Wars fans and pinball lovers. Some of the controls are hard…

BioWare Reading all Posts in Bug Reports Forum

Amber Green made a post in the Bug Reports forum that clarifies that BioWare staff is in fact reading all posts made to the bug reports forum. Even if they don’t reply individually to every post, they are reading them and taking them into account. This is important information to know for all players. Nothing is more frustrating in playing a game than reporting bugs and feeling like the developer and staff doesn’t care or doesn’t even read the bug reports. But BioWare wants you to know that they care about the game and about us. Amber Green says: Often we will post in threads in this forum to gather additional information about something that is reported or to update the status of a particular issue. However, please note that while we will be reading every thread and report in this forum, we will not respond to every thread, and…

Frank Gibeau Interview with Venture Beat

Frank Gibeau talks with Venture Beat on EA’s digital ecosystems, Star Wars games, and Titanfall (interview part two) with information about EA’s future, games in the works and more. As you may already know, Electronic Arts has some very large properties in the video game world. FIFA Soccer, Titanfall, Star Wars Battlefront and more are examples of some of the big titles we have coming from EA this fall. Venture Beat talked to Gibeau about this and more in part 2 of this great interview. See a snippet here: GamesBeat: It seems like you guys, as EA, can believe in a digital ecosystem around games. If you’re Disney, you can believe in transmedia. You can do toys and films and whatever. You guys have the Need for Speed film. When do you step outside that? Gibeau: We have an embarrassment of riches in terms of intellectual properties at EA. Then, you couple…

Hyperspace Beacon: SWTOR PvP Rant 2013

Are you a fan of PvP in SWTOR? If you are, then you might have a rebuttal for this SWTOR PvP rant from Hyperspace Beacon. Or maybe you’re none too pleased with SWTOR PvP and you agree with what they have to say. I agree that they make some good and valid points but overall, I enjoy PvP in SWTOR and I don’t agree with the rant. Also, they begin the piece that blasts into SWTOR PvP with the lines “I will not pretend that I see the whole picture. All I can see is the situation presented to me. And from my perspective, PvP in Star Wars: The Old Republic is broken.” Honestly, this opens the doors largely to criticism of this review because it’s little more than an opinion-based rant of one person’s limited point of view of an aspect of the game. That being said, without the opinions of…

Star Wars vs Game of Thrones- Meme Throwdown

Star Wars and Game of Thrones face off in this epic series of memes that Mashable has combined for us. Mashable says: Westeros and the Death Star may seem light years apart in the sci-fi universe, but Game of Thrones and Star Wars actually share a lot of scenarios. And thanks to this awesome subreddit, we can prove it. Ok, so we knew Redditors had to be behind this all along! So what the heck do these two things even have in common? Well Mashable lays out a few examples of the symmetry: Sure, outer space doesn’t have any dragons and the Seven Kingdoms won’t be fighting off Darth Vader and his Stormtrooper army anytime soon. But long before Cersei Lannister macked it with her brother, Princess Leia made familial flirting look totally normal. And Lord Walder Frey probably learned a few things about betrayal from Lando Calrissian himself. If you’re a fan of Star…

Some SWTOR Players Not Happy about Ewok on Cartel Market

Recently BioWare revealed to us that Treek, the new Ewok companion from Game Update 2.3, will be coming to the Cartel Market in August. But as the word spread, it sounds like some players are not as thrilled with the news as BioWare may have thought. Just Push Start tells us about how some SWTOR players are not happy with BioWare’s decision to put the Ewok on the Cartel Market: When the Ewok companion was originally revealed on the Public Test Server, many found out that one of the ways to get the new companion is by having the legacy level of 40 and be able to pay one million credits. A lot of people were pleased to that decision as it gave players motivation to play and level their legacy level up to get the cute companion. However, when the news broke out that Treek will be making its…

The Wall Street Journal Spotlights the Star Wars Expanded Universe

We are seeing Star Wars making mainstream news and conversations more often here lately. Even President Obama had something to say about how awesome Star Wars is. So while we were not surprised, we were happy to see The Wall Street Journal handle the topic as well. In the Arena section of Friday’s Wall Street Journal, writer Alexandra Alter reported on the literary universe surrounding the Star Wars films and also addressed the fans who enjoy it and the culture that often critiques it. Alter interviewed author Troy Denning as well as some other key names to Star Wars. Hardcore fans will not be surprised by most of the piece but it was very well researched. TheForce.net tells us a bit more about the article: Nothing in the article will surprise serious Star Wars fans. It mentions Leland Chee’s Holocron, with the obligatory reference to both the database’s scope and level of detail — including “the…
