Star Wars: Battlefront

Battlefront: is It or is It Not Like Battlefield?

Star Wars: Battlefront is definitely one of the most hyped and eagerly awaited games out there, and with more and more in-game footage becoming available as the November 17-20 release date draws near, it is apparently great at generating controversy too already. Among the fans who can hardly wait to get their hands on the title, there are players concerned that despite all the hype to the contrary, the game will end up being a re-skin of Battlefield. DICE and EA have repeatedly sought to alleviate such concerns, even during the early stages of development, when they made it clear that the teams working on the two projects would be completely separate and there would be as little co-inspiration as possible. Nevertheless, a couple of days ago, DICE General Manager Patrick Bach saw the need to come forth again and reassure the community that the two games would be as…

Star Wars Battlefront Classes in LEGO Form

Okay, regular readers know what a big LEGO fan I am. There are few things I love more than LEGO Star Wars so I found this pretty cool and had to share it with you. You can see from the images below that another fan created some Star Wars Battlefront classes out of minifigs. They’re pretty spot on with what the real classes would look like and the builder had a fine eye for detail when it comes to getting these right. battle front classes Here we have seven images that depict the Star Wars Battlefront classes. There’s the Clone Trooper, Heavy Trooper, Sharpshooter, Engineer, Clone Commander, and Jet Trooper. The Jet Trooper’s gun isn’t exactly spot on since it should be a little bit wider but we think he did awesome with what he had to work with. You could probably also do Rebels and Stormtroopers if you wanted…

DICE sheds light into EA’s (and BioWare’s) PR and Marketing Practices

EA’s/Dice’s new Star Wars: Battlefront game is currently in a similar situation PR-wise and marketing wise as EA’s/BioWare’s Knights of the Fallen Empire. There isn’t much information about either game from official sources except for a few bits of information here and there. For KOTFE, it’s the story aspect and for Battlefront it’s the authenticity of the graphics. Both of the games are just a few months away from their release. KOTFE is expected at the end of October and Battlefront is expected in the middle of November. After the exciting event of D23, where the only new information about Battlefront was the nine different game modes, DICE said that the following articles explained their marketing principal and explained to the community why there was not much information. This is likely the same for BioWare. Game developers are not typically very secretive when it comes to general game development information…

‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Was Right To Cut Its Single-Player Campaign

The new and upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront is turning out to be one of the biggest game releases this fall. I am sure that it would have done fine any other year, but since its being released in 2015, it also has all of the hype from Star Wars: The Force Awakens that is releasing in December. However, fans have been upset that no matter how good it looks, Battlefront will not have a single-player campaign. Instead, the entire game will either be a death match multiplayer or co-op in individualized missions. There is no story mode at all. EA’s Peter Moore recently talked about the decision: “You make a decision, years out, and you plan for what the world looks like when a game ships in two or three years. That’s about the intuitiveness about the executive producer, and his or her vision for the game.” “Between when a…

Electronic Arts Says The Days Of Inferior Movie Tie-In Games Are Over

The new upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront is expected to be one of the highest selling games of the year and the fact that the new Star Wars movie is being released a month after the game helps its chances even more. While it’s likely that the franchises corporation planned the release strategically, Electronic Arts COO, Peter Moore, states that the games does not need any assistance from circumstance. The days of several average movie tie-in games must go along with big cinematic releases are gone, according to a recent interview that Moore told MCV.  “That’s not what we do anymore,” says Moore. “We are a superior medium. We can tell stories better than any direct movie, which is linear with passive engagement from the viewer. We take great pride in the fact that you are playing your Star Wars fantasy. When I got in this industry, yeah, we were a…

EA skipped a Battlefront campaign because “very few” would play it

The new Star Wars: Battlefront will feature AI-controlled enemies for single player and co-op modes such as Survival, however there will not be a proper single-player campaign. The reasoning for this is quite simple, after Electronic Arts Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore told Gamespot: Hardly anyone would bother playing it anyway and skip the games. Moore stated that large decisions like this are typically made years in advance before the games release, and sometimes this can lead to problems. “Between when a dev team starts work on a game, and when it finishes, the world becomes a different place. I remember when we started work on Star Wars: The Old Republic; at the time, the model to go for was subscription,” he explained. “By the time we had the game ready, the model to go for wasn’t subscriptions. That’s why we had to stop the game, and rebuilt it as…

Star Wars: Battlefront Supremacy Revealed

The different multiplayer modes of Star Wars: Battlefront have many different types of experiences for players to enjoy. Everything from close-quarter battles to huge clashes on large maps, the Supremacy mode fits into the latter category. The Supremacy mode centers on five different control points that are scattered throughout the map. The player’s objective is to gain control of all five of the points, or most of them, before the 10 minutes are over. Every team will start the match controlling two of the points and then they will then have to fight for the last one in the center. After this has been done, the control points will need to be claimed in a certain order. Supremacy mode is a hardcore mode that is for players who know their way around the battlefront and for those who are craving mad action. Lead Level Designer Dennis Brannvall states that the…

Will Star Wars: Battlefront Have Depth that Players Want?

Here’s a discussion that is up for debate (and it likely won’t be the last time we see it being discussed): Does Star Wars: Battlefront have enough depth? Does it even have a chance to have the level of depth that some players seek? Are some people expecting too much from their multiplayer shooters these days? As gaming evolves, so does the technology in which we use to enjoy it. So also does the tastes and expectations of the people who play the games. We’ve heard many excited Alpha testers admit that they are a bit let down by the not-quite-final product of the game. Thus starts the debate between the “cynics” and the “fanboys” and with both sides going at one another, we often don’t hear real evidence about the game itself. So let’s take a look at the two main points of view and then we’d like to…

Star Wars Battlefront Preview- PCMag

PCMag recently teamed up with a PR representative for a single round of Survival Mode. When you play this mode in the full game it will have players going up against 15 waves of enemies on multiple different planets that include Hoth and Endor. However, during the PlayStation 4 demo they took on six waves on the beautiful deserts of Tatooine. The main object of the mode is to stay alive but sometimes they received secondary missions from Admiral Ackbar to find and defend the weapon cache pods. If one player dies but the other one lives and finishes the round, both Rebel soldiers can go to the next round. The new Star Wars: Battlefront is currently being developed by DICE and they are known for making the Battlefield series. Just like Battlefield, Star Wars: Battlefront is mainly a large multiplayer experience. The only single-player part of the game will…

Star Wars: Battlefront Impressions: Learning to Survive or Die Together

The new and upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game is not only about Revel vs. Empire multiplayer battles, but much more. As it was revealed at this year’s E3, the game will have a cooperative multiplayer mode, this is where up to two players can work together to take on waves of incoming Stormtroopers. Shack News used their teamwork skills during the EA Summer Showcase in New York City. During the beginning of the match the players get to pick out their equipment, like your main weapon and a star card. The star card will tell you what your special equipment load out is. The first is used for defensive play and also includes an Ion Torpedo that closes in on enemy vehicles like the AT-ST. The second card is for offensive players and it has the Barrage grenade launcher and Ion Shot. The Ion Shot temporarily enhances your blaster, which…

Star Wars Battlefront: Walker Assault Mode Explained

Many fans of the new upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront game are confused and excited about the new Walker Assault mode. There is no an explanation of the mode thanks to BattlefrontUpdates on YouTube. Walker Assault is an atypical game mode and it has many phases that repeat themselves. The Rebels will be taking out uplinks in order to summon the Y-Wings, the Walkers then arrive in a certain location, the Y-Wings strike back at the Walkers, and then it starts all over again. This scenario plays out in different locations on the map three different times. Walker Assault does not end until the Walkers make it to their shield generator or the Rebels may take them out before they make it to their destination. During this mode, the Rebels are typically on the offensive and the Empire is on the defensive end. Every phase begins with one location and two…

Star Wars: Battlefront Alpha is Not the Full Game

There is a lot of talk about Star Wars: Battlefront and understandably so. With the date of launch easing ever so closer, fans will continue to look for every little piece of gameplay info they can find. In doing so, we want to take a moment to remind you that Alpha game footage and leaks can be deceiving. Alpha is not the full game. We repeat, Alpha is NOT the full game. For a variety of reasons, the Alpha is a barebones, stripped version of the real game. This makes it easier to show testers the basic gameplay and even graphics and more but without requiring them to download the full game and also without releasing the game in entirety during a testing phase. This is standard practice with video game launches and testing. So if you’re judging the full game based on the Alpha, keep this in mind. Folks…

Rendered Luke vs Real Luke

Can a rendered Luke Skywalker look like the real thing? With the right team and equipment, it might even look more real than the actual Luke. Here are some screenshots to prove it. The rendered Luke is taken from Star Wars: Battlefront.  CG is more difficult than one might think and it usually requires an entire team of CG animators/artists to create what might seem like a simple project such as this. Often times you might have a person working on hair or facial effects while another is working on simulation effects to get the right completed look. There are researchers who will go through photographs and other tools of the person they are animating/rendering. Again, it’s not easy. But the results can be pretty fantastic. We can’t help but wonder what the actor thinks of this. It would be like seeing a younger you come to life. How cool…
